My 6+ year old LG refrigerator stopped dispensing both ice & water a few weeks ago. A fwe months prior, there had been some low water pressure and was going to get a new filter (original), but normal pressure returned and never got around to getting new filter. The ice maker is grinding away just like normal, so called LG and a tech rep troubleshot it over the phone. He seemed to know what he was talking about and believed my problem was linked to the reversing solenoid. So I removed and inspected, but could not really detect anything wrong, so wrote part # down and re-installed, but water and ice is still not dispensing. Also, while looking over the solenoid mechanism, I could not determine how that might be causing both problems. I could see where it was needed for dispensing ice, but not water, so maybe I'm missing something? A replacement solenoid will run ~$25, so not big expense and easy to replace, but just not convinced the solenoid is my problem, or at least not my entire problem, so interested in what the experts think?

The water line is freezing in the door due to deteriorated insulation. The only fix I have found to work on my fridge was to defrost the inside door with a blow dryer. Then place a weedeater replacement line (the orange 10" or so size you find at Lowes' or Home Depot) up through the dispenser nozzle, If the line only travels about 3-4 inches up the nozzle, then ice is still in the tube. Blow dry it until you are able to get water to dispense. After the tube is ice-free, place the weedeater line up throuth the dispenser nozzle leaving about 1/8" sticking out. The dispenser will still work with the line stuck in it. The dispenser will probably freeze again in about 8 hours, But all you need to do each time this happens is to pull the weedeater line out, dispense the water to unclog the ice, and place the weedeater line back in the nozzle. I have been using this method for about a week now and it works great. My GE Side-by-side is also 4 years old and this seems to be a problem with all of them. There is a part you can order to fix the problem, but I have heard it may not work.

Do you have the "dummy filter plug" installed and not the actual water filter in the upper left of the inside of the fridge?

Replace water filter, this unit had a issue with restrictions in filter due to a design issue. Water valve is all so called a water pump from many people.
