Try starting it in safe mode. (Hold F8 after power on). If you get your icon screen go to start, run and type in msconfig. Click startup and disable all the items. Hit OK and try a normal restart. This error can be caused by a bad program starting up.

SOURCE: I had the blue screen of death come up on my wifes

click on start windows normally and if the problem come back again. try these steps
in this case, we need to reset the computer back to factory settings.

here we go...this process will cause data loss.
1. Remove non-essential peripherals
like
a) Scanner
b) Printer
c) Modem or Network cables
d) Personal Digital Assistant (PDA)
e) USB flash drive or other external Hard Drive
f) Any other external devices (e.g., USB-attached devices)
g) Remove the computer from the docking station, if you are using one.
2. Turn on the computer.
3. When the Dell splash screen appears during the computer startup process, press and hold <Ctrl> and then press <F11>. Then, release both keys at the same time.

4. In the Dell PC Restore by Symantec window, click Restore. Alternatively, press <Tab> to highlight Restore, and then press <Enter>.
5. When a warning message appears stating that all data will be lost, click Confirm, or press <Tab> to highlight Confirm and then press <Enter>.

The Progress window will appear. Once the restore process starts, Dell PC Restore by Symantec usually takes about 8 to 10 minutes to finish.

When the restore process is complete, the following message will appear:
The system recovery process was successful.
6. Click Finish or press <Tab> to highlight Finish and then press <Enter> to restart the computer.

The software is now installed as it was when the computer was first received.

SOURCE: Vaio: switch on the wireless LAN = blue screen and restart!

This can be a driver issue.

I would go to the manufacturer website and retrieve the most updated driver for your wireless card.

Then, go to device manager
Right-click on "My Computer" -> Click on Manager --> click on Device Manager

And uninstall the wireless card. For example, my wireless card name is
INTEL/Pro Wireless 3945ABG Network

After you do that, go to Control Panel and click on 'Add Hardware". Click on "Next" and it should detect your hardware.

After it detects the wireless card, point it to the most updated drivers that you downloaded.

See if that works.

SOURCE: my acer aspire 5520 keeps shutting down on boot

Insert your restore CD if errors are found and not fixed by the checkdisk function listed above. Turn your computer off and then back on. You'll beasked to hit any button to boot from your CD; press any key. You will then beasked if you want to install a fresh version of your OS or "Repair" acurrent copy. Choose the "Repair" option.

Hello i have an HP windows 7 i turned it on and it goes to blue hp screen and freezes up

A blue screen error usually comes up on Windows 7 when there is a serious hardware or software issue that may be causing Windows to Shut Down unexpectedly. At times, a message may also come up on your screen saying "Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer."

To troubleshoot this issue, you may need to try out multiple troubleshooting options to detect whether the issue is with your hardware or software and to resolve the same as per the recommended procedure.

To know more about your troubleshooting options to get rid of blue screen error, you need to refer to the following Microsoft and HP support pages:

From what you are saying i would try installing on different hard drive, as it sounds like file corruption is playing a big part of your problems. If it isnt the hard drive then it may be one of your ram chips

Your operating system or Master Boot Record is corrupt. Which version of windows are you using?

It may be possible to repair the problem with your windows disk. Boot from the Windows disk but make sure you read the instructions for windows repair carefully because some options will format your hard drive.

To rescue the data here are some things I do:
Make a boot disk with USB support and transfer the contents of your drive ton an external harddrive. Or, you could place your hard drive in another computer as a slave drive and retrieve your files that way.

ERROR MESSAGE READS...

There seems to be some corruption on the hard drive. You need to boot up the laptop from the Windows installation cd. Once "Setup" has started, you need to look for the option "Recovery Console". Once loaded you may get asked which installation you want to log onto. Type in 1 and press Enter. Then type the following: CHKDSK /P and press Enter. This will run a checkdisk and more than likely report that it has fixed some errors on the drive. Now type EXIT and press enter. The system should now reboot, remember to remove the Windows installation cd. If this fails, you may have to take the laptop to an authorised dealer.
