Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

The fan on my Carrier cental air system is on, and I can't

Figure out how to turn it off on the control panel. The fan runs continuously when the controller is in the "off" position or the "air" or "heat" are turned on.

Basically, the system works fine. I just want to know how to turn off the fan.

It is a Carrier Weathermaker 8000TS - 58CTA/58CTX.

If your fan selector, NOT SYSTEM SELECTOR, is in the auto position then your fan motor module is likely bad.

The fearute that is running your fan so often is designed to provide even, consistent temperatures throughout your home as opposed to hot spots and cold spots. Some customers find this feature to be an annoyance or a waste of electricity. IF you would like to be able to turn off that blower you can have it wired to a switch which would give you either manual off and on or even a timer.

If you want to do this in a barebones fashion you cojuld just find the circuit breaker that controls it and turn it off when you don't want to use any function of air, heat or cool.

I have a carrier 48nlx024 I replaced the fan control board and the fan comes on by itself when t stat is off

Do you have a "circ" feature on your tstat? This will periodically bring the fan on to circulate air. Be sure you are on auto. Is the fan running continuously? Possibly have relay backwards.

My goodman cental air system is having problems. First, the blower inside (furnace) keeps running for hrs after the outside condensor shuts down. Now, the condenser blower motor wont operate at full speed....

the cause of your indoor fan running all the time or for long time after your heat pump has stopped heating is the fan delay relay. It has welded its internal contacts together. If you take off the side below the control panel, the fan delay relay is normally mounted on the header where the fan discharges. Good news, the fan delay relay are fairly inexpensive and easily to change.

As far as the condensing fan motor not running at full speed, when it was changed, did the technician install the correct fan motor. Most condensing fan motors are either 875 rpm or 1175 rpm. They are exactly the same size and if the technician did not look closely he could have installed the wrong rpm motor. There is another possibility, he may have used the wrong capacitor. I have seen the condensing fan actually operate backwards at a lower than normal rpm. The fan if properly installed will discharge air upwards.

Carrier outside Unit will not power on. Every 45 sec's to a 1min it will make a humming sounds like its trying to power on but wont. The fan unit inside will come on but will not disburse cold air

You probably have a bad run capacitor in your outside unit. You will need to cal a service tech to test and replace it, until then turn your system off until it is repaired. Continuing to try to run it will over heat the compressor and fan motor and cause them damage.

Fan motor on Carrier inside runs backwards

Hi,
Sometimes a motor can start to run backwards... on an indoor fan it is usually because the air inside for some reason started the fan backwards while it was off and then when power is applied it continues to run backwards... once this happens the fan is ruined and it often will not atrt the right way even after the air problem is solved...
You will need to replace the motor and see if you can figure out why there was reversed air flow in your system...

Carrier AC 38CKC019 may have overheated. The fan unit buzzes but does not turn.

Hey there, ok, now if the fan is spinning and the compressor is buzzing, the compressor is locked up and needs to be replaced. If neither is running and the buzzing is coming from the control panel on the unit, it could be the contactor. Also there is a chance that the fan motor burned up, causing the compressor to fail so the fan would be off but the compressor is buzzing and locked up. If nothing is running also check the circuit breaker it could just be he conactor you are hearing. At that point you need to figure out why the breaker tripped. Let me know what you find out

Turn the power to the indoor unit off. Remove the cover where the fan is. Feel the motor of the fan. If it is very hot the bearings have likely gone out. If the fan is cool to the touch I would call a service company because you likely have an electrical problem that will require some training to solve.
