If the hard drive failed you will first need to replace it with a working hard drive. One that is done, power on the computer with the recovery disc is the drive and enter setup. It should say something like press F9 or F10 for Setup. Look through the menus for "Boot Order", make sure your CD/DVD drive is above hard drive. Save the changes and reboot, you should get a message "Press any key to boot to disc" or something similar, do so, and follow the prompts to re-install windows.

I need you to be my eyes.

May sound far fetched at the moment, but I would like you to look at the motherboard; and specifically the Electrolytic Capacitors on the motherboard.

(Radial Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors)

FOLLOW Anti-Static Procedures FIRST.
If you do not know, please state so in a Comment.
Do not attempt repair until you do.

The eMachines desktop computers are a budget/starter computer.
Nothing wrong with that, but to cut costs; low quality components are installed.

The next area we will diagnose is the Power Supply.

Factory restore

If your particular eMachines model didn't come with recovery media or you just misplaced the disc, you don't want to be caught without a means to restore the operating system.

It's all too easy to accidentally download a virus or experience any number of problems that make your computer unstable.

However, there is an option for restoring your computer without the original recovery disc by using the pre-installed recovery software.

Use an external memory device such as a DVD, flash drive or external hard drive to back up the data you need to save from your eMachines computer.

Any data that isn't saved to an external source will be erased when the computer is restored to factory settings.

Remove any discs that are in the optical drive and unplug the computer's peripheral devices, such as an Ethernet cable or scanner.

Do not disconnect the keyboard, mouse or monitor.

Click the Windows "Start" menu and choose "All Programs."

Navigate to "eMachines" and choose "eMachines Recovery Management." Click the "Restore" tab.

Click "Password Settings" if you have not already set a recovery password. Type a new password in the text box and click "OK." Click "Restore System to Factory Default."

Type the recovery password and click "OK." Click "Next" to wipe the eMachines computer's hard drive and begin the recovery process.

Select "Finish" and wait for the eMachines computer to restart.

Use the series of installation prompts that appear on the screen to create a new user account for your operating system, set the system date and time, and set up your internet settings.

hope this helps

My emachine laptop has a virus. When you turn it on it goes to black screen with the option to start recovery mangement or start windows. When pressing either,it goes to black screen for a little bit then...

You may have files that you want to keep that you saved on your hard drive, but if you haven't backed them up then you will have to lose them because the only thing you can do to fix this is use the factory recovery disk which will wipe your hard drive clean.Just put the disc into the disc tray and you should get an option to start the recovery disc when you turn on the computer, it will tell you to press a key to start it which might be f3 or something different, I'm am not sure what key but when you have done that you should be able to start the recovery and wipe the hard drive clean and it should solve your problem

Can i format my HD on an external bases with my laptop, then install it back into my pc. my hard drive crashed and i need to get it to boot. i dont have the boot disk

Technically, YES, the hard drive can be formatted as an external (with the appropriate equipment) on your laptop (if there are still files on it, you may even be able to extract them from it) but it still won't be bootable because it does not have an operating system on it.

That would be the part where you need the recovery disc. Windows setup programs from these boot discs already have the format utility so if there aren't any files to extract from the drive, you can skip to reinstalling Windows on the desktop and formatting it in the process.

Bottom line is that you need a Windows installation disc to make the hard drive bootable again, regardless of where you format it.

Hello my emachines monitor won't turn off and the side buttons won't work either

Test the PSU if the units fan is not working the power supply unit is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions IDE,SATA

the leads from your "((motherboard to your hard drive))" make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error If your computer came with a motherboard disc the drivers could be on it or you might have a dirty graphics card remove the graphics card and clean the socket
hope this helps
