Refrigerator doesn't defrost

Kenmore coldspot model 106.53342300, side-by-side refrig and freezer..
Ice builds up in freezer section when freezer set at 1 where 4 is coldest. An inch of ice covers everything. The ice is also forming in the refrigerator section at a vent near the bottom beside the vegetable bin.

I have a kenmore coldspot model 70167998 - loud vibration in freezer; i'm thinking maybe it's the frost free fan going out? Is this a fire danger?

no theres not any fire danger,it may just be the fan blades hitting ice build up due to defrost issues you will need to remove the rear inner wall in the freezer to see exactly what it is

Hello,

Due to the blocked drain it sounds to me as if the vents in the ceiling of the refrig. has frozen over so no air can be circulated from the freezer into the refrig. section. This tip i wrote will show ya how to clear the drain and addation to clearing the drain the ice build up would need to be removed from the vents. Here is that tip, http://www1.fixya.com/support/r9945686-check_when_refrig_cools_ok_but_leaks

The defrost system is not working. Ours had a sensor go bad that clips on the coils inside the freezer and can tell when their is front. When it is not working the frost just keeps building up because it down not call for the defrost heating wire to ever come on. It could also be that the wire is bad or that the control panel is not responding the the sensor. It sounds liek the issue is no defrost cycle though.

I have a Kenmore side by side refrig (no ice maker) Freezer works fine. The refrigerator side is not cooling. I have cleaned out the vent between the freezer and the refrigerator section by defrosting the...

Check to make sure the evap fan is running.
IF so, then let unit defrost, then turn back on, check for air comming thru top of refrig vent, if air moving ok, then let run for a few days and see if refrig warms again, if so then check for frost build up on back wall of inside freezer, if so, you have a defrost problem. With a defrost problem, defrost heater may be bad, defrost timer/electronic control may be defective. Either way, in most cases it is a defrost problem unless you don't have air moving and fan is running in this case you have a damper door problem inside air duct in refrig.

Model 78182891 Coldspot with excessive water Collecting in Refrig

a plugged or frozen drain is a common problem that occurs from time to time in just about all refrigs so the answer is yes it may occur again in the future. But folllow theses directions and it will probably not occur again for 2-3 years.

  • Unplug refrigerator
  • unload food from freezer
  • remove icemaker if present (there are 3 screws remove the one on the bottom and loosen the 2 on top of icemaker then lift it off the 2 screws unplug from wiring harness)
  • remove 2 screws holding rear cover in place
  • move cover to the side or remove from unit altogether
  • defrost any and all ice from bottom of freezer and aluminum drain pan that is now exposed
  • flush drain hole that you will see once ice is cleared with warm water. (sometimes I use a large syringe or turkey baster to forcefully flush hot water thru the drain tube)
  • reassemble in reverse order
Post back if you have any questions and I'll gladly help you out Thanks Peyton

Kenmore coldspot not making ice, and not cooling in the bottom

Your refrigerator is frosted up. Remove the inside panel of your freezer. Defrost the ice out of the coils and check the heater and bi-metal. If both are good then your defrost timer is bad. If one is bad replace and you have it fixed. Good luck.
