True GDM-10 started making loud noise AFTER door was slammed after getting something inside; checked inside fan was running slow. Noise sound like something stuck in motor.

without knowing age of unit, I suggest replacing the motor. Sounds like the armature is worn the bearings and is moving inside the windings of the motor. I would do that first before moving forward with any other repairs.

GE model gth16dberww top mount freezer. Freezer is iced over. Removed rear cover and coils are also iced over. Poured warm water into drain and water immediately exited to drip pan. not sure where to

Sounds like the defrost timer is not functioning, or a defrost element is burnt out.
#1. After an accumulative "run time", typically the timer will initiate a defrost cycle. At that point the defrost heaters are energized and the compressor is turned off for the duration of the cycle. The defrost time cycle varies from manufacturer to manufacturer and can be as low as 15 minutes to as much as a half hour. If it is defective, it could be stuck in the cooling position not initiating a defrost function.

#2. If the defrost heater element is burnt out, the timer functions normally and will cycle the defective heater on, but there will be no heat generated to defrost the ice.

#3. A more remote possibility is a defective "defrost termination thermostat" which is wired in series with the defrost element. If defective, it will keep the element from energizing on a call for defrost.

At any rate, unless you are extremely handy AND have access to a supplier of repair parts, it sounds like a service tech needs to be called.

What is defrost overheat?

There is defrost heater which comes on in defrost cycle. defrost heater stays on certain time(lets say 15 min), but lets think it came on to defrost and melted all ice of the coils during 5 min, but we still have 10 more min design for heater to stay on. if heater will stay another 10 min it will warm up your stuff in the freezer, so everything will start to melt. to get around this, all freezers have limit thermostat(defrost thermostat), when that thermostat feels heat from heater, it will shut power off to the heater, so it still in defrost cycle, but heater will be off for another 10 min. When that thermostat get stuck in closed position(does not shut power to the heater when all ice melted out), you will have defrost overheat. so most likely that defrost thermostat needs to be replaced. here is the video how i replaced it on subzero pro series.

Freezer compartment no longer cools. Continuous defrost cycle?

Good day,
Sounds more like the compressor trying to start and can't.
Pull the machine out, remove the rear cover and see if in fact the sound is coming from the compressor.

This is a good possibility. When the fuse and or the switch resisiter goes faulty the system will default to a single speed defrost only...

Defrost timer

The settings are for different regions. The colder your region the sooner you want it to go into defrost. If you have it set at 30 then every 30 minutes of run time the board will want to go into defrost. However there is a sensor that is mounted to the coil that registers the temp. of the coil. If the coil is not cold enough it won't let it go into defrost and the sequence starts over. The more it runs in defrost the costlier it is to run and the more wear/strain you put on the compressor and the system in general. Start at 60 and go from there.please don't forget to rate this solution. Thanks.

I can't get my fridge to turn back on after defrosting it.

Check the defrost timer.

The defrost timer could have automatically cycled to the defrost mode which means it should come back on in 15-20 min. If it doesn't then the timer could be stuck in the defrost mode.

Freezer not working nor is the other side

Unplug the Ref for 15-20 min, plug it back in and listen for the compressor to start. You will have to be behind the ref also, check the fan that keeps the compressor cool. If you hear a clicking then the compressor relay is bad. If nothing happens then the defrost timer could be stuck in the defrost mode.
