How do I trouble shoot this problem?

I had this unit installed on my sailboat 2 years ago. At the end of last season it quit running . The digital display no lights what so ever and the unit appeared completely dead was even considering replacing unit this year. Last week I was working on the boat doing some maintained which required some hammering in the vicinity of the thermostat display. I herd this clicking sound in yhe cabin so I went to investigate and found the sound coming from the a/c unit and three dots blinking on the display of the thermostat. I pushed the on button and then the cold button and the unit started and ran fine for about an hour. Then the clicking sound returned and lights blinking. Same procedure as above would start unit and it would run for various lengths of time then shut down and I would have to start the cycle over again.

Sounds like a loose wire could be main power or in tstat

SOURCE: Dometic/Duotherm propane furnace won't fire up

If this unit has a spark ignition you may just need to clean the flame sensor. It is a metal rod protruding in the path of the flame.

SOURCE: Compressor will not come on. Fan runs great.

I fixed it. I had a dirty connection on the starter relay for the compressor. Thanks again for the help.

SOURCE: My compressor will not start.

There are a few more things to try, in the control unit of the AC there is Cold Control/Freeze Switch. Take down the control unit (inside unit, remove inner shroud) and remove the cover, The freeze control is plugged into the blue plug on the board. Remove the plug and install a jumper wire in its place. Does the compressor come on? If so, you have a bad freeze control. If not, then we need to check and see if your AC power module is sending power to the Compressor. Check power across the relay in the control unit, Black to Blue. If the blue wire is hot, then you need to go upstairs to the top of the compressor and check the thermal overload. If the blue wire is not hot, the comfort control center may not be sending a signal to turn the compressor on. If it is not, do a reset of the CCC. For a five button system, turn the tstat off and hold down the Mode and Zone buttons simultaneously. While holding them down, turn the CCC on and hold the buttons until FF appears on the screen. Release the buttons and try the AC.
Four button reset -
Depress MODE switch to activate annunciator light.
Simultaneously depress the bottom two buttons
(temperature UP and DOWN) and hold.
While holding these buttons down, depress the
MODE button once and release.
Release the two buttons previously held down.
Depress the MODE button once again.
At this time the light should extinguish, and the mode
should register “OFF”. If not, repeat Steps 2 through
6.
Retest system ensuring that all functions are present
and operational.

Hope this helps,

Jeff

SOURCE: Dometic Duo Therm Ac, Fan runs, Compressor cuts in and out?

your compressor is locked up. i would try replacing the round start capacitor. you need to check what the exact rating for yours is but I believe one of these two will work for ya. In the meantime do not continue to try to run it, it will kill the compressor.

Do you hear compresser start up noise. If so then please check it with a clamp meter and Amperage the Unit is drwing. If it is less than 8-9 Amps than there is some leakage in the AC and all the collent has leaked. So you got to get it serviced.

If the induction motor ain't going I would look for a blown 3 amp (purple) fuse on the control board. If that was good I would check if any of the roll out switches were tripped. If a rollout switch was tripped check or air restrictions somewhere.

Pilot flame moves off thermocouple when main flame

You must get the dust out of the ODS chamber that builds up during warmer months. If you go monkeying with the flap it will quit altogether. I use a simple squirt of rustbuster into the pilot, let it dry and all is well once more. You can get rustbuster at ace hardware for $2

Stalls, with oil runing out the exhaust

you have a valve that is stuck in the open position head will need to be removed
then spray valves with wd40 and turn engine over a few times watching to see both valves open and closing, once that is working install head with new head gasket.this is caused by not properly storing the unit. gas should be drained at the end of every season and then ran to burn all gas off from carb and fuel lines once it quits remove sparkplug shoot a tablespoon worth of oil in the cylinder crank engine over for 10-15 seconds to distribute oil on cylinder walls and valves then re install plug now your unit is winterized ready for the next season
