Well, not long ago, my wife and I were watching House when our screen suddenly went completely black. There was no discernable noise or popping sound or pinprick of still visible light...it simply went completely and utterly black, however we're still able to hear the sound perfectly. The tv is only 14 months old, purchased from Newegg.com, and the manufacturers one year warranty expired only a short time ago so I'm hoping against hope that there's some type of explainable repair though in truth I somehow doubt it. At first I tried cyling through the channels and through the various inputs thinking that perhaps it was a problem with our satellite but I was still unable to see any type of picture..still the pure black. However the sound was still active. Afterwards, I unplugged the set and all the connections to it and let it sit five minutes before plugging the tv (minus all video/audio cable connections) back in and trying to turn it on. The red timer/rec light located on the front right lower portion of the tv blinked red a few times and when I pressed the power button the blue tv light located next to it turned on and again I was met with sound but no picture. I've now unplugged it yet again and am going to wait until tomorrow morning (roughly 8 hours) before plugging it in again in hopes that it will somehow be miraculously fixed. I should mention that there's been a thunder/lightning storm during this entire time however there was no surge in power and the tv and cable connections were plugged into a 21000 jule power surge protector. *shrugs* I have no clue what to do fellas and I'm sure as hell not looking forward to missing the NCAA tourny or dishing out hundreds and hundreds of dollars on a LCD barely over a year old. It's frustrating to say the least. If anyone has any suggestions or even better an outright fix I'll be ten different types of grateful.
Reset the TV. There instructions in the manual on how to reset.
It could be several things..
Does blank means no visible light from screen? If you are not able to or don't want to remove the cover... Peek in the back between the slots to see if you can see signs of white light ( Back panel lights). We are trying to rule out back light or inverter issues.
If there is light then we can move on to the digital board..or power getting to that board...lvds connector .board and lcd driver /Tconnector board...I think there is a total of 3 boards dealing with video processing in this unit...Its been a wile since i had the back off one

I don't know if you guys are still looking for an answer but turn the TV on where you can here that something is actually playing on the TV then grab a flashlight and turn all the lights off. Get real close to the screen and shine the flashlight on the screen. Can you see something on the screen? If you can then there is a very good chance that one of the inverter boards are out. This could be the slave or the master. For the 47" I actually have the same issue and have ordered the master inverter board. For the 42" I have both the master and the slave board and they are both working. So for the person that has that issue on the 42" TV if you want a board for your TV email me at [email protected]. For the one with the 47" flip a coin and order an inverter board for it either master or slave and try it. To determine which inverter board it is you would have to take the DC voltage across the start and then the end to see if you are getting any power. I hope this helps. By the way inverter boards usually run between 60-120 dollars each and the slave board on both these TV's are easy to install. The master is a little harder due to the power button board is in front of it and has to be removed first. Let me know if this helped.

the stand just slots into the bottom of the tv and you just tighten it with four bolts provided.

Im afraid meter testing would likely be outside my area of expertise, my friend. Without some step by step help I'd likely be as much trouble as help trying to do much but I'm sure as hell willing to give it a shot.
Toshiba 42 inch plasma picture went all of a sudden while watching but sound still available
you can start by looking at the numbers on the main board of your tv that connects the lcd screen by ribbon cable wire( flat) and you can also go to that link and look at the main bord closer by clicking on it , then you will see big blue capacitors , on your tv look for those same capacitors and see if they are bulged on the top of them(thats one way to tell if those went bad)
then let me know if you visually see any dammage( look very carefully)
if a board is suspected to be the culprit you can also get the board if it comes to a component that is not replaceable on the board
I will do some more research on your tv and will be back with what I have tomorrow , and you can also then let me know what you see visually inside on the boards/components
you would need to check ribbon wire connections from lcd to board , maybe a component check , or board replacement
there are some parts out there for your tv http://www2.shopjimmy.com/searchbymodel.... , but testing to find out where it went wrong needs to be done
can you do some meter testing ?
