Badger 5-81 motor buzzing, blades spinning, won't grind

I have a badger 5-1 the blades are free, the motor buzzes, so it's getting power but the disposal doesn't grind. I tried another outlet (thinking it's not getting enough power) I used the hex and it's turning easily, going around and around but when I turn on the switch I just get the buzz, the sound it would make if there's a jam, but there doesn't appear to be anything blocking the blades. Any ideas?

Replace the whole thing. They are not that expensive and are easy to replace. The issue could be bad motor part or the shaft came loose from the grinding disk.

It just buzzes

grinder blade is probably stuck or in a bind. Take a socket wrench with extension and from the top (sink), turn the nut and blade inside the disposal by hand to free it up. Can also unplug it and reach inside to see what may be lodged in the disposal (rag, bone etc).

There is a buzzing sound, but the blades are not turning.

SOUNDS LIKE MOTOR MAY BE BURNED OUT.
IF SO, U CAN TURN BY HAND, BUT MOTOR
WINDINGS MAY BE FRIED SO IT WON.T RUN.
U MAY HAVE TO REPLACE. SEE IF U CAN
SMELL FOR BURNED WINDINGS.

I turned on the wall swithch. there is a buzzing noise but no movement. blades move freely when i hand turn them. i have unpluged the unit from the wall, still no movement

I think you are talking about a disposal. Since the blades move freely and you have actually unplugged it from the wall, feel all around the bottom of it for a reset button. Even if you have removed power, if this button clicks when you push it, it was tripped. Otherwise, my disposal just did the same thing. The type I have only last for 2 years. Mine buzzes and thats all. The motor has gone out. I will have to replace mine. You may as well.

In-sink aerator makes buzzing noice and wont work even after pressing the reset button.

Are you sure the blade is turning? If its not, there is a hole in the bottom you can fit an allen wrench into to turn the motor and break it free again.

When I turn my disposal on it makes a buzzing ound. the baldes are free. after I turn the blades , I push the red button, and turn the disposal with the wrench, but still just a buzzing sound.

Not good news unfortunately. I would say that either the bearings in the motor are worn out ,so the motor has a hard time turning. Or it may be that one of the motor windings (electric coils) is bad.

I would replace the disposer. If you can purchase a new one just like the old one it will screw right on where the old one was removed.

please mark this answer as a fixya. thanks
