Black ink cartirdige not recognized

My printer worked fine until one day it stopped printing and said that it could not recognize the black ink cartridge. The red indicator light is off when I open the lid to access the cartridges. I remove the black cartridge and put it back in place, the red light comes on indicating it is installed properly. But I close the lid and the problem comes back instantly. The cartridge is more than half full. I haven't been able to use my printer in months and desperately need assistance.

That sounds like a defective chip on the cartridge. Return it & let them check it (if they can)...

Are the cartridges you are using remanufactured? Some printers are very picky about this and will only work with manufacturer cartridges. What brand of printer?

Why won't my CX9400F recognize Epson ink cartridges

The Epson CX9400F printer seems to require replacement of all the color ink cartridges, even if only the Black is empty.

I print almost exclusively in Black, but with my first change of Black, I was forced to change all the color. At the time I thought Epson did not provide completely filled color ink cartridges.

Just yesterday, I replaced Black and the printer complained it did not recognize the rest of color cartridges. So I replaced all the other color ink cartridges and now it works fine.

You might want to check out www.clickinks.com for cheaper, mail order alternatives which are Epson ink compatible, if you are not in a hurry.

Black ink not recognized

Select printer, properties.
Select printing preferences, select advanced.
Select more options.

Make sure you do NOT have Use color cartridge for all black printing selected.

(I had set that a while ago when my black cartidge ran out when the kids had a paper due - I forgot I had reset it. Once my color cartidge ran low, everything printed pink).

Let me know if that works for you.
