Magnavox ZV450MW8A DVD won't play on PC

I successfully transferred a VHS to a DVD on the Magnavox. It plays fine on the Magnavox but I wanted to test it out on my PC. I insert it and it appears that it will play but just hangs up on the opening Windows Media Player screen.

I called Magnavox and they said that since it was finalized it should play on other players but if it doesn't it has to be the fault of the other equipment.

Does anyone here have any idea what the problem could be?

I hate to have to hook up my old DVD player if this is not going to be an option at all.

Thanks.

I just bought this magnavox and have also successfully copied onto the dvd which polays in what I recorded but not in other units. Shows I have nothing on the DVD. Very Frustrating. I, too, need help to figure it all out. If I can't then I am taking it back to get a refund. bk

You must finalize the disc first and then it plays just fine. I do it all the time

I recently copied some of my old VHS tapes onto DVD-R disc & they play fine on my Magnavox, but won't play on my other DVD player. What did I do wrong?

Check through, the settings of Magnavox and do the similar region
settings in your other DVD.

In short to say, recording format and the play back format does not
match. if you corect this through the MENU available, it should be OK.

May be your other DVD is old model!

I have a Magnavox ZV427MG9. I follow all directions in manual for dubbing VHS home movies to DVD but when I try to play the DVD back there's nothing on them. What am I doing wrong?

Depending on the procedure you may be pressing the record button instead of the D.Dubbing or Dubbing button. When recording from VHS to DVD you must first, load the blank DVD and VHS home movies, then play the VHS movies, then PAUSE the VHS movie when you want to START recording... then the only the you have to do is pressing the D.Dubbing button or the Dubbing button. If your VHS tapes starts to play after the Dubbing button is pressed you have been successful in Dubbing.

DVD does not play on other players or computer

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your description indicates that the last step in the DVD recording has not been performed on these discs that were recorded on the Magnavox. This would be "finalize" or instruct the Magnavox that no other files would be written/recorded on the current disc. Thereafter, the Magnavox would complete the DVD disc making it playable in any other player. Normally, finalization would take a bit of time to complete.

Pls post back how things turned up. Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

--- for some reason this unit does not finalize automatcally.

--- the instructions for finallizing are on page 52 of the owners manual.

--- they are as follows:

1) Press Setup

2) Scroll down, select "Disc Edit", press "OK"

3) Scroll down, select "Finalize", press "OK"

4) Select "Yes", press "OK"

Finalizing will start.

--- have done this operation several times, works Ok.

The PC requires a compatible DVD player software! What are you trying to play the DVD with?
