The paper is probably jammed between the fuser and the rear cover if you can't see it.
SOURCE: HP 7680 paper jam
I spent 21/2 hours with the HP tech support - with their recomendation to upgrade my 14 month old computer to the bigger model because the screen reads "paper jam". I have had this printer replaced once already, 1 week after I received it for a defective doc feeder. I decided to take things into my own hands - First of all, no paper was ever located in the paper jam area. Several soft resets by shutting down for 20+ seconds, then pressing #6 at start up resulted in any improvement - the screen continued to read "paper Jam....." the HP tech was unable to offer any practical suggestions.
I turned the machine upside down after removing the document feeder and examined the rollers at the back of the rear tray where the paper jam was supposed to be. I noticed that there was some black residue on the gears and although the machine was off and unplugged - the rollers / gears would not roll freely and seemed to get stuck. I cleaned them thoroughly with an old but clean toothbrush and water. (don't grease the gears - I've heard it eats the plastic) - until the rollers would freely roll when I moved the gray rubber rollers.
Returned the machine to correct position - and turned it on - "paper jam" message returned but the machine was sounding different than it had - so I did another soft reset (unplug from wall and printer for 20 seconds, then holding #6 for a few seconds while plugging back in and now I can print. The printer went through its maintenance cycle and did a realignment. I can print and everything is working fine at this time.
I hope that this will help someone. I couldn't find any information on how to repair the printer and HP seems to be all about producing junk and convincing you to "upgrade" at a cost of $2-300. When this one does finally go - I won't be buying an HP!
The 7680 jams a lot and the document feeder has a lot to be desired. It has trouble feeding straight and if there is a jam anywhere in the machine - it is always difficult removing the paper without tearing it and creating more problems and waste of time.

you probably have a piece of paper inside printer or you have damage a paper sensor path while removing jammed paper.

Hi,
If paper jam light is solid than checked paper path sensors and toner sensors and if they are aligned correctly than perform cold reset(Keep pressing and holding the green button) if still the issue persists and orange light remains solid than i m sure formatter board is faulty and we need to get formatter board replaced.

SOURCE: hp laserjet p3015 pausing after 5 or so pages
I have seen this problem before. Basically what is happening is the fuser is losing it's heat. When the printer pauses it is waiting for the fuser to get back up to temperature. The first course of action would be to reinstall the print drivers. This will rule out the communication aspect. Then to replace the Fusing assembly (fuser) and if that doesn't work to replace the Power supply.
If it is the power supply it wouldn't be worth the time or money to repair the printer based on the original cost of the machine.
