You don't have to clean the HEPA filter (underneath the canister in that clear part) - if you break that clear part you will cause damage to the machine and it won't **** anymore as the air will escape. There is no need to remove it or replace it, it is a lifetime filter. You only have to clean the blue filter that is inside the top of the canister/dirt bin.

SOURCE: Cleaning the filter on the Dyson DC17

The fliter is under the canister. Take it off as if going to empty the dirt out. There is a cap that lifts up to clean the filter. I washed mine and let it dry (it took almost 3 days) before replacing it.

Dyson animal will not stand up and question...
Posted by madmimi on May 28, 2008
my dyson will not stand up by itself=catch seems to have failed and online instructions from dyson have not solved the problem- can anyone help
my second question is will dyson replace my lifetime hepa filter that is located beneath the debris collector, it is very black and is not washable

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.

In answer to your 1st question, you may want to check with a factory authorized vac dealer who does repair on the Dyson vacuums to see if they can correct the problem, or call the Dyson factory phone # listed below for the nearest vac dealer in your area. 2nd question. The Hepa filter is mostly a wear item and I was not aware of the lifetime Hepa filter and that also would be a good question for the factory to answer, I could not find an answer to the questions and they might be able to clarify the answer to both your questions. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

SOURCE: Dyson collecting debris/hair, ect on top of hepa filter?

Called Dyson today about the cyclone canister clogging in my DC17 Animal. Turns out it's a problem with the black rubber gasket in the bottom of the canister. This also causes the HEPA filter to get lots of dirt and debris on top of it. They are sending me a new Cyclone canister with the corrected gasket. This will prevent anything but small particles of dust from entering the top of the cyclone and the HEPA filter should no longer collect all that stuff. Hope so!

After cleaning my filters, the filter in the ball keeps snaping out when I turn on my vacuum

Hi Betsy, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear your DC25's HEPA post filter doesn't seem to be staying in place. Once it's removed, it's important to replace it firmly, pushing it into place until you hear a click from the red locking catch:

If you're confident you've replaced the HEPA post filter securely, but it seems to be coming loose when you switch the vacuum on, please get in touch with the Dyson Customer Helpline so we can provide further assistance. You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

I need to clean the post HEPA filter on the bottom of my Dyson DC 18. How do I go about doing that?

If it is one that can be washed instructions will be in owner manual or even on the outside of the ring that holds it in place, did that recently for a friend and if air is blocked there low or no suction and in some cases unit will shut off and seem to have total loss of power, motor overheats and thermal relay or breaker trips.

The unit had marked it could be washed in soap and water in the sink, look for instructions as if not meant to be washed it could be ruined.

How do you fix the pre hepa filter on the Dyson Slim DC18

Hi there,

In normal use, your DC18's filter needs to be washed at least once every 3 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for the filter to dry completely somewhere warm before replacing it.

The filter below the clear bin is designed to last the lifetime of the machine, and does not need to be maintained or replaced. Attempting to remove or clean this filter is likely to cause damage, so we'd strongly advice against this.

I hope this information is useful to you - if you'd like any further assistance or advice, please visit www.dyson.com and click on 'Support', or call our customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Best wishes,

Jack

How do you get the clear plastic housing off to replace Hepa Filter on a Dyson DC 18 ?

Don't take the clear plastic housing off. The lower hepa filter is not meant to be cleaned, only the top filter needs to be cleaned, every three months. I just talked to the Dyson rep about the same issue.

I have a dyson dc 17 what is the best way to thourghly cleaning , so I can get better suction , also do you have a instruction manul to. I seem to have misplaced mine thanks

The first step towards improving the suction is to clean the circular HEPA filter. The filter also houses a circular sponge which should be rinsed and dried before putting it back. Check the HEPA filter to see if it needs replacement -- will look muddy! Another quick check is to remove the HEPA filter, run the vacuum cleaner momentarily in upright position to check if suction is restored at the hose end.

After doing this if suction is still poor or non existent, you should detach the transparent canister - a bit tricky since the release rod for the flap has to be aligned when you want to reassemble the unit.
Once the canister is removed, you should check and clean the center tube/shaft for any clogged dust (use a wire coat hanger if needed to pry out the dust). This tube gets clogged if the vacuum cleaner was used to pick up damp/wet spills etc.

Changing the HEPA filter on a DC17 Animal

Just took my Dyson in and yes my HEPA needed changing. It's under the right wheel (as you're looking at the machine); you can see it through the "vents" above the wheel. The screw is on the bottom of machine.

You will probably need a Torx (star) 15 screwdriver -- that's what Dyson seems to use everywhere.
