Answering system settings
Number of rings before the unit answers a call.You can change the number of times the phone rings "Ring count"before the unit answers calls. You can select 2 to 7 rings, or "Toll saver".The default setting is "4 rings"."Toll saver": The unit's answering system answers at the end of the 2nd ring when new messages have been recorded, or at the end of the 5th ring when there are no new messages. If you call your phone from outside to listen to new messages (page 34), you know that there are no new messages when the phone rings for the 3rd time. You can then hang up without being charged for the call.

Set rings to answer
You can select the number of rings that will occur before the fax answers an incoming call. If you are using your machine as both a telephone and a fax machine, we suggest you set the ring count to at least 4 to give you time to answer.
TIP: HP 1050 Fax: The Toll Saver function for the Digital Message Center interacts with Rings to Answer. See Toll Saver on page 40. If you have the HP 1050 Fax and have Toll Saver turned on, set the Rings to Answer to 2.
1. Press Menu repeatedly until BASIC FAX displays and press Start/Enter.

3. Enter the number of rings you want (2-7) and press Start/Enter.

NOTE: You cannot send or receive faxes when the phone line is in use. Even if the HP fax product has a separate telephone number, it is still sharing the same phone line. Step one: Turn on Auto Answer Turn on Auto Answer by pressing the Auto Answer button on the control panel. The button light indicates when Auto Answer is on.If the button light is already on, you do not need to press the button. wen i receive incoming calls there is no ring or message alert

I just bought a new Uniden DECT 6.0 phone and had a similar problem. It wouldn't ring when plugged into my Linksys voip router, but my old 5.8 GHz did ring. It would get a dialtone and make calls, but when called via an outside line, it would appear as if it was ringing. If I picked up during this "silent ring," it would answer and take the call. It wasn't a ringer volume issue. I called tech support, they said on the main headset, unplug the battery, then unplug power from the base, then unplug the phone cord from the base. Wait 15-30s. Plug the phone cord, then power, then reinstall the battery. Press the End button on the phone. Put the phone on the base for 15-30s. Pick up the phone. Press and hold the Find button on the base. Do this Find thing 3 times. Put the phone back on the base. Wait 10-15 minutes. Then try calling it to see if it rings. Worked for me, finally got it to ring before I decided to return it.

Receptionist Call Routing. If you want calls to be answered by the receptionist first, set the lines at the receptionist's extension to Immediate Ring and the lines at the users' extensions to No Ring. (This is the factory setting)
Receptionist Backup. If you want all calls on a line to ring directly at users' extensions -with the receptionist providing backup -set the line at the users' extensions to Immediate Ring. Then set the line (or lines) at the receptionist's extension to Delayed Ring. An incoming call that is not answered by a user within 20 seconds will also ring at the receptionist's extension.
Programming
To change the way outside lines or pools ring at an extension:

1. Press [ Feature ] [ 0 ] [ 0 ] [ System Program ] [ System Program ] [ Central Tel Program ].
2. Enter the number of the extension to be programmed for Line Ringing. The green lights next to the line or pool buttons on the phone show the current Line Ringing settings for all lines assigned to the extension. (If a line is not assigned to a button, the green light next to the button is off.) The following ringing options can be shown by the green light next to the line button.
   • Immediate Ring - on steady
   • Delayed Ring - flashes slowly
   • No Ring - flutters quickly
3. To change Line Ringing for any line, press the line or pool button until the button light shows the correct setting (the setting for the currently selected line or pool also appears on the display).
4. Continue programming or exit programming mode.

Typically you want your phone system to ring your phones (say extension 10, 11 and 15) and then if no one answers after so many rings the call is transfered to the port the voice mail is on (let's say it's port 16) The voice mail is set to answer right away but does not "ring" until the call is transfered to it. This way (at 4 rings) if a call comes in on line 1 and you answer after 3 rings but a call comes in on line 2 at the same time, the first ring on line 2 will not make the total = 4 and set off the voice mail. I would guess the port at your voice mail is not set to ring and nothing is set up to transfer calls to your voice mail. Did you set this up yourself? How did you program the phone system?
