Close captioning stays on all the time.

I have a 55" Mitsubishi WS-55807 the sound would fade out after 20 minutes of watching the after being turned off for a while it would come back on. The sound then went away completely, so I hooked up a tuner and enternal speakers for the sound. Now the closed captioning is on every chanel all the time. I have run through the set up menu and set it to close caption off, close caption on when mute, and other settings... nothing seems to stop the captions from coming on.

Any suggestions on what to try next?

Close captioning

Well lets try the simple things first, Go to the TVs menu using the original TV remote and find the icon or menu that says Captions, in that menu turn all the closed captions OFF. Second there is a button on the original TV remote that says format, push this till you get to a screen that says FULL in the upper left corner. That should resolve your problems, If closed caption still comes through then we need to know if this set is hooked directly to cable or goes through a cable box. It sound like you simply had the closed caption turned on and the screen in one of the zoom formats this TV provides

RGB picture guns ( CRT's ) are ok. Your set needs a common
convergence circuit overhaul requiring replacement of two IC's,
part # STK392-570. Usual cost about 400.00.........T.

Turn on tv and after a minute it turns itself off

Check fuses F9A04 and F9A05 (5A micro fuse)on the board in the middle. If one or both are open than you need to change both the convergence IC's (STK392-570)along with the fuses.

Go into the menu and see if your closed captions are on and set to "TEXT". Setting the closed captions to "OFF" should solve your problem.
