Keyboard jam when I hit CAps Lock.

When I start my HP G60-104CA, the keyboard or touchpad ( on CPU) doesn't work. I have to go into the keyboard in Control Panel and just click on a few things (without changing) and click OK and it comes back. (the keyboard not the touchpad) Also, there is a beep everyonce in a while. (like I was holding down a key for too long) Anyone???

The beep is completely random and doesn't sound that long ( about as long as it takes you to say BEEP... I just get the beeps when I'm in the OS. THe main worry for me is why does the keyboard jam up? I can get it to work if I do the following.

    - open MS Word
-Open the Keyboard screen of of Control PAnel
    - Go into device propertiesn and click out by pressing on the OK button.
    - then it types on word

I don't get it ... did a driver rollback and upadate and still nothing. Could it be a new virus... I ran McAffe and it didn't pick up anything...

    Hi there.
A beep from from the motherboard indicates that there is a problem with it.
Can you describe how many beeps there are and if there the beeps are long are short, also do you get the beep at post/bios stage of boot?

    Regards

Bad keyboard, buy a new one.
bad HP driver for it. missing,/bad/wrong or corrupted
is this XP, what OS is there?
why post lacking OS name, windows what?
those are the simple causes.
if you take a boot disk/ or mem stick with linux live on it
and it fails,. the keyboard is bad.
if not the OS is corrupted, a 5 min test, and bingo... why/

either the keyboard/mouse (2 in 1 on laptops) drivers are invalid in which case you can go to http://support.acer.com and download the keyboard/mouse drivers and/or utility.

Let me know if this works for ya,

This should help. If not look for the Dismantling Guide on my blog to check if the keyboard and touchpad is properly connected.

Sure, buy a new keyboard. You may have to install the drivers for it but that's pretty simple.

I can`t get any upper case functions to work on hp 2011 keyboard what key do i press

1.Make sure the "Caps Lock" key is not on. Though this will be obvious to most people, if your keyboard is typing in only upper-case letters it can't hurt to check. Look at the "Caps Lock" indicator light on the top right corner of your HP keyboard. If the light is on, strike the "Caps Lock" key on the left side of your keyboard. This will turn the "Caps Lock" off, allowing you to type in lower case letters again.

2.Make sure the "SHIFT" keys on your HP keyboard are not stuck. Dust and dirt can build up on a keyboard over time, which can cause certain keys to stick. If either of your keyboard's "SHIFT" keys get stuck, your computer will type in only capital letters. Use a toothpick or cotton swab to remove the gunk from the key, which should help it return to its normal position.

3.Unplug your HP keyboard and then plug it back it. This will remove the device from your operating system and then automatically add it back in. This can have the same effect, essentially, as restarting your computer. If your keyboard was typing in capital letters due to an error being stored in your operating system's memory, that error will now be cleared and the HP keyboard will function as normal again.

4.Update your HP keyboard driver. Click "Start" and then right click on "Computer." Click "Properties" and then "Device Manager." Right click on the listing for your keyboard and then click "Update Driver." This will update the computer software that is associated with your HP keyboard. If your keyboard was typing in all capital letters as a result of an error with this driver, the error will now be fixed and you can use your keyboard normally again

STUCK IN CAPS CAPS LOCK WILL NOT RESPOND

Hi,

check to see if the CAPS LOCK key is jammed?

If not,

disconnect the battery from the keyboard, wait about five minutes and see if that clears it up...

or,

see if there is a reset button on the keyboard that you may have to access using a paperclip... depress the reset button on the keyboard, that should really help!

Keyboard and touch pad will not work

The HP50 and HP60 laptops both have a lock button I just discovered by tripping over it today. Couldn't find a description of it in the printed or onboard manuals. This button is in addition to the overall computer lock function key (f6) that is well described. This keyboard/touchpad (k/t) lock button is obvious when pointed out, but less so when those items are already locked out by casual hand motion. The button is located just above the touchpad and is embedded in the border trim of the keypad. It toggles access to your k/t. It has a little indicator light so one doesn't miss it, but it is pretty low-key, if you forgive the pun. Designers can be a little too cool sometimes!

PC shuts down while running Windows

Attempt to boot the machine in Safe-Mode.

While powering up continuously hit F8.

You will get a Boot Option Menu, Select Safe-Mode boot

If you can get into safe-mode I would suggest to try doing an online scan, as it sounds like your issue could be related to malware:

Lazy finger causing keyboard to lock in all caps??

Does it happen with everything you type or just in particular programs? If it happens in Microsoft word 2003 highlight the area where the all caps is happening then go to Format, Font. Under the Font tab there is a section called Effects, in this section there is an All caps option, uncheck it.

If it types all caps everywhere there could be a short in your keyboard. You can solve this by taking your keyboard apart using a multimeter to find the short and reconnecting with solder or electrical tape. Getting a new keyboard or talking to tech support can also help.
