Hitachi 50V500 50 in. HD-Ready LCD Television Logo
Posted on Aug 21, 2007

Hitachi 50v500 I have a blue blob on the top through the middle, and a red blob in the middle. I have recently changed the bulb, and also had the ballast changed. Very expensive. Is there anything I can do without having to pay out more technician fees?

same blue blob that is spreading across my screen!!!!

Close to $1000 to repair. It is the light engine. I gave up, cheaper to buy a new one, and certainly not a rear projection.....never again.

To all that are experiencing the blue blob. This is result of poor maintenance. Projectors must be kept clean on all air intakes. This is to help you all understand the failure cause. Usally not worth repairing.

The blue blob is most likely a problem consistent with a light engine failure. i should know since i am on my 50V500's 3rd light engine. i hope you have a warranty because it's close to a $1000 repair. ...oh, and i had the same blue blob at one point and it would not go away until the light engine was replaced.

I have a ultravision 50v500 and it has a blue blob in the middle of screen. I have just changed the bulb with hardly any change in the blob. I also had the light engine changed approx 2 years ago.

That is caused by excess heat possibly due to poor air circulation/blocked filters.
It is damage to the LCD panels. It won't get any better, just worse.
So look for another Blue LCD panel and someone who is experienced to fit it.

Hitachi rear projection LCD with yellow blobs on screen

I have the same tv and the same problem, but my yellow is a cloud around the outside of the screen. My tv was recently moved, and a repair shop told me that sometimes in a move these tvs light engine takes a shock and causes a yellow "band" on the screen. I am hearing that these light engines are not cheap either. Hope this helps you.

50v500

If you have the "red" blob in the center of the screen or you have "blue" blobs that show up in random areas of the picture then the only repair is to have a technician replace the optical light engine.

Blue Haze in middle of screen vertical

There is no solution with Hitachi products.

If you have read many of the posts, you would have known not to buy Hitachi Telivisions or like me avoid all Hitachi products. There help line is not very useful, they just blow you off. I have never had a worse experience with other manufacturers. Take Onkyo for instance, they had a problem with a chip in their THX receiver and it was a year later ... I called their help line they located a repair store about 40 miles from where I live (in Texas that is not very long) and got my receiver fixed and this was 8 years ago.

Also use Consumer Reports to check the frequency of repair record for the product you are going to buy. In Plasma - Panasonic is a safe brand, in LCD's Sony or Samsung have good repair records.

Research the product before you buy it, avoid walking into a store have the salesperson direct you to a product. And then you save money if you order it online. Amazon online is very good.
