I am currently using this as a recorder to record class lessons. I need to retrieve my lessons but the hard drive does not seem accessible. When I turn it on it goes to the rescue mode and gives me 4 choices. I tried the clean up and the reboot but this did not work either. I am not willing to reformat or reinstall the firmware as this will cause me to loose everything. Is there any way that you can get the hard drive repaired or can you retrieve the information and put it onto a disk. There seems to be a mechanical glitch or for some reason it is not finding or getting past the initial seek track. It is not reading the hard drive. It has a 20 GB hard drive in it.
Did any of this stuff actualy work?? because i am having the same problem with mine the only thing is as long as i've had mine i didn't even know where the reset button was.

The solution to many random problems is to simply reset your Dell DJ. This can be done by using a small, thin object (such as the tip of an ink pen) to press the reset button that is on the bottom-left side of the DJ. -or- Hold down the play/pause button while it's off, insert a paperclip into the reset button, take it out, and then let go of the play/pause. The DJ should open to a rescue mode, then run disc clean-up.

tap it on the right side when the EAX logos comes up. A tpa right above the menu button should do it. It's kind of silly, but BELEIVE me, it works

i found this on a site and it worked for me, hit it ******* the right side as you boot it up, its sounds funny but it worked for me and a lot of other people

Have you tried plugging the DJ into your computer without first turning it on? Its just possible it might work by being called up by the plugging in of the usb cable. Also, make sure you have the power plug plugged in before doing this as a low battery might affect things too. If plugging it in doesn't turn it on, turn it on manually AFTER plugging in the USB. If it comes up, then load up DJ Explorer and see if you can find your files that way. If so, copy and paste them to another folder on your computer. Once the files are safe, you can then reformat or reload the firmware to get the dj working properly, and back to business.
