John Deere L120 transmission high pitch noise and no forward move

While picking up leaves in a slow forward speed due to the amount of material on the ground, the tractor stopped all forward and backward movement and started giving off a highh pitched noise form the rear end. Turning off the tractor and trestarting the tractor stops the noise until the forward or reverse foot pedal is pushed. Then noise starts again.

When I press the pedal in reverse or to go forward, the tractor makes a loud noise and slows down almost to a stop.

Try jacking the unit up. Start it up and try moving pushing the forward and reverse back and forth and see if it does it then. It sounds like an oil way in the hydrostatic unit has a check valve stuck. Of course make sure that the fluid lever is up. Hope this will help you. donnyb60

I have a John Deere 6930 when I move the lever to go forwards or backwards it will move about 10 feet and then drop out of drive - have checked codes - the only one I cant find is EPC 191.17 any ideas

No transmission speed or low transmission speed.

Likely a bad transmission speed sensor but can be other. Check for loose cable connections, and harness for damage.

John deere 425 transmission pushing fluid out of vent on top of transmission. PUmp making a whining noise

You have a fluid overheat condition here, so something is wrong inside the transmission that is causing this.

My John Deere rinding lawn mower won't go forword or backwards

John Deere mowers, for the most part, use hydrostatic transmissions. These use an oil of some type (they vary by model) in the transaxle to provide hydraulic pressure to move the tractor. Older tractors will eventually experience some oil leakage over time due to seal wear. If the level gets too low, then you fail to move. Check the oil level in the transaxle. The location of the reservoir varies from model to model. If it is low, after determining the correct oil to use, fill to proper level. Then, start the tractor and work the hydrostatic drive lever forward and backward slowly and continuously until you get full speed operations in both forward and reverse. This can take a few minutes until all the air has been purged from the system.

Hi, your problem is caused by the transmission over heating. Remove the battery and battery carrier and clean all grass and debris from the hydro cooling fins and fan. Hope this is helpful, regards Phil.
