A DC-7 has a Panasonic motor which is the best part of it. I have never seen one of those fail within the life expectancy. You do have to consider that a Dyson was never designed to last more than 5 years. The newer Dysons are only designed to last 2 years. If the motor runs for 15 minutes and overheats, my first guess would be a faulty heat sensor on the motor. If it ran only 30 seconds or so, probably a bad motor.

Dyson animal will not stand up and question...
Posted by madmimi on May 28, 2008
my dyson will not stand up by itself=catch seems to have failed and online instructions from dyson have not solved the problem- can anyone help
my second question is will dyson replace my lifetime hepa filter that is located beneath the debris collector, it is very black and is not washable

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.

In answer to your 1st question, you may want to check with a factory authorized vac dealer who does repair on the Dyson vacuums to see if they can correct the problem, or call the Dyson factory phone # listed below for the nearest vac dealer in your area. 2nd question. The Hepa filter is mostly a wear item and I was not aware of the lifetime Hepa filter and that also would be a good question for the factory to answer, I could not find an answer to the questions and they might be able to clarify the answer to both your questions. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

SOURCE: Dyson cleaner keeps cutting out, no blockage found, filter clean.

1. Check the on/off button these can also be troublesome and if you've stood on the cable once or twice you could have a break in the wire and it's shorting, check by turning on and wiggle cable around where it enters machine.
2. Faulty thermocouple, it is held in a white plastic housing screwed with one T15 torx screw to the motor housing. You could replace it but I just shorted mine with some wire and it hasn't failed since and more importantly not caught fire yet!

I have a Dyson dc08 it won't turn on. No smell just won't turn on. Can someone help me? I need to know how to test for... If it's the switch ? If it is the motor ? Motor brush? Cord to machine? Please...

Start by testing the cord and switch to be sure you are getting proper electrical voltage. If so check at the motor. If you are getting proper voltage to the motor and it won't run you may need a new motor.
If you are not experienced in doing the testing required to determine the source and cause of problem or problems it may be less expensive and a lot safer to hire a professional. Not all vacuum repair shops can repair Dyson vacuums. I highly recommend a repair shop that is a Riccar Warranty center as they have the proper training to do the repair correctly.

My dyson just quit working when I plug into electricity it will not come on

This could many things.

In order of ease of checking/testing:

1. Have you checked the fuse in the plug ?
2. It could be a cable fault - do you have a multi-meter and know how to test for continuity ? If not, you'll need help from someone how has/can, if not take your Dyson to a repair shop.
3. It could be a faulty on/off switch - same test criteria as for item 2.
4. It could be a faulty over current/temperature cut-out that safe guards the motor - this is in reality part of the motor so very difficult to replace seperately.
5. It could be a faulty motor - there is no easy way to test a motor but if all the other items above are okay, then it's pretty much a given the motor is finished. Motors can be obtained fairly cheaply but require very good DIY skills and tools to fit.

Ball makes a clicking noise every 0.25 metres. Please help

Please read this answer all the way through there is something that may be relevant (strike out 'important') at the end !

Maybe it's this
"clip that holds the filter in place and the locating lug of the access flap to gently rub together as the ball rotates and create a slight clicking noise as the appliance is moved around (though is not routinely noticed due to the motor noise)"
(from Fully Cleaned Serviced Refurbished Dyson DC25 Animal Ball Vacuum Cleaner )
stop press - I just saw this - if you do not have proper Dyson brand HEPA filters - see end of answer - you may get a loud clicking sound....
The manual tells you about removal and cleaning HEPA filter - the All floors version has one as well)
Otherwise I can only refer to Dyson support, there are various ways of contacting them given at the top right of this webpage Support forDC25 Multi Floor
(the user guide manual is downloadable from this webpage)
Sounds to me as if maybe there is an irregularity on the ball that is contacting the body/ball housing every time the ball does round....unfortunately this makes the ball diameter ~8cm which too small.

I have a Dyson DC28 Animal Bagless Upright Vacuum. The vacuum has no suction. the beater roller turns but there is no suction. The red button and the on off switch only works when the handle is moved...

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC28. I wouldn't suggest attempting to dismantle the cleaner yourself, as this will void the warranty.

Due to the nature of your issue, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly - one of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting checks over the phone with you, and provide further assistance. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON - or if you email your details to [email protected], someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

Kind regards,

Jack

Can I vacuum a house full of soot without damaging my dyson?

hi.

i would not like to try it with my dyson.
soot particles are often "oily" or "sticky", and would probably clog any standard hoover.
it would probably work out cheaper to hire someone with an industrial cleaner. that way, not only do they do the job for you, but it is their responsibility if the soot clogs their cleaner.

hope this helps

Dyson dc05 motor cuts out

Hi,

Check for either voltage to switch or if your not happy or compettant working on live mains.
Switch meter to ohms ensure vacuum is unpluged from mains follow live wire (brown) from plug to exit point on the back of cable rewinder check for continuity shold be dead short if it is check switch if this is ok move to neutral (blue) wire again check from plug to rear of cable winder.
The neutral then goes off to moter again check for dead short,
I think from experience that you will have A break in either live or neutral in the mains lead going to cable winder.
If it is its realy easy to replace winder they come with lead all ready fitted.
If you need one contact me.
