Dvd burner not detected

I can play and burn CDs, play DVDs, but cannot burn DVDs. It's telling me "No DVD writer detected. Cannot burn DVD disk!"
I have a SONY CDRWDVD CRX310S SCSI CdRom Device built in.

There are some dvd drives that can read CD, DVD and write CD but is not able to write dvd data. I suppose that your DVD drive should be of this kind. So you may need to upgrade your drive to DVD writers that can burn both CD and DVD. Then with a DVD burning software, you totally can burn a DVD disc on your own. Sorry, but that model is not a DVD writer. It can only write and rewrite CD's. It can only read DVD's.

There may be 2 lasers... one for cds and one for dvds. Check if it can see dvds. If it can't see either it is toast

Open the draw and give it a blast with compressed air from an aerosol can or play a CD lens cleaning disk, if that doesn't work, don't try too hard, get a second hand replacement from ebay or any second hand shop you have near you.

I have an external teac dv-28e-n usb DVD writer device which does not recognise and burn DVD rewritablce discs.

I think that Teac DV-28e Is a CD/DVD-ROM only, and will not burn discs. Teac DW-28e is a CD RW/ DVD ROM unit, and will thus play and burn CDs, but will only play DVDs. Check your model numbers to confirm, and then consider exchanging units if you need to burn CDs.

Is your DVD drive a Combo DVD ROM and CD Read/writer? If so it cannot burn DVD only reads DVDs and read and burn CDs.
If the program cannot find a DVD burner then either the burning software cannot support that model DVD burner ot the DVD burner is faulty.
To test the DVD burner, remove it and install it into another computer to test the burner to see if is faulty.

It is a DVD ROM drive which stands for DVD Read Only Memory. In other words, this drive is meant to only PLAY DVDs and CDs but NOT save data to them.

To burn CDs you need a CD burner. Burners are of 3 types:

CD writer only burns and reads CDs.

Combo drive reads CDs and DVDs but only burns CDs.

Super drive burns and reads from CDs and DVDs.

As you go higher in functionality, the price also increases. Check your needs before you plan to buy one. Also compare prices of all the drives. Note: burn-able media costs are separate.

This may be caused by bad media, or incompatible formats. There are a variety of media formats for CDs and DVDs. Your reader may not read them all. What model are you running, and what type of media (DVD-R, DVD+R, etc) are you using?

Can't burn pass over 78 min on my burner

CDs can only store 800 Mb, which is exactly 78 minutes. If you need to burn more data than that onto a disk then you will need to burn DVDs with a DVD burner.
