Inputs wont work

Yesterday I moved my TV and entertainment center from my living room to my family room. I hooked it up the same way, cable using component1 and PS3 into input1. Now the I only get a blue screen switching inputs, I got the cable going into ant1 just to watch it. I tried to reset factory default, didn't do anything.

SOURCE: Hooking up my new PS3 to my five year old 55" Mitsubishi HDTV.

The Sony outputs 180P, not 1080i. There is a difference. I don't know what exactly, but Sony says 1080p is for superior.

SOURCE: Flickering blue picture

I finally got around to dismantling the TV. This is no mean task. The chassis is tethered to the rest of the set my over a dozen wiring harnesses and a few of these cannot be disconnected near the chassis but instead require removing the “right support” near the air duct and taking the shield off the lamp ballast. Once the chassis assembly is out, it is a further significant task to disassemble it to get at the various PWBs (POWER, FMT and DM) having the suspect caps. I’m sure reassembling everything will be a fun job!

I have not yet had a chance to fix and reassemble but I wanted to post this no as I’m not sure when I will get around to it.

I did find six of the fourteen known-problem caps to be visibly bulging -- both 3300s and two of the four 1000s on the PWR PWB plus two of the four 1000s on the FMT PWB (see photos below). Ironically of the four 1000s on the DM PWB, which I have heard are the most common to go bad, were bulging and I considered skipping these as the DM it is the toughest board to extricate from the chassis, however I figured I had come this far and I would just as soon replace all twelve 1000 uFs as the parts cost $0.23 and I really never want to have to do this again.

If I had to bet, the two 10V 3300uF caps on POWER board, which were actually leaking black goo, are the actual culprits, but with four of the 1000 uFs also bulging it is probable only a matter of time until they failed as well.

Here is the POWER PWB with the known-problem caps (C9A37, C9A38, C9A51, C9A52, C9A61 and C9A62) highlighted:

here's the FMT PWB with the known-problem caps (C8F19, C8F21, C8F22 and C8F27) highlighted:

and the DM PWB with the known-problem caps (C81A2, C81A3, C81B3 and C81B4) highlighted:

SOURCE: No video in any of the TV inputs

first try resetting and rebooting. reset = menu, 2470, enter.
reset is press reset button and wait for green lite to stop blinking.
if that takes care of it great. if not it sounds like a signal board or dm problem and will need repair. check out www.tv-techs.com

SOURCE: Mitsubishi WS 55711 convergence problem only with some inputs

Projection TV2_bing.gif sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung2_bing.gif, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith2_bing.gif, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit from the link below.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D2_bing.gif
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash2_bing.gif focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com

How to get my cable tv to work on my lcd tv

If using Coaxial cable from CATV box to the anolog antenna input, you need to be on Ch3 on the analog tuner, not digital tuner. If using a modulator, make sure its set to ch3 output also. If you are using RCA style jacks, you should not run a modulator. Make sure your TV input matches your choice of jack inputs in the back. Normally, I use the yellow RCA out of the CATV box to the yellow jack of AUX input on the back of the TV and the r/w leads to the aux input of the receiver. so you get Stereo amplified sound from any channel the CATV box is tuned to. If you have an AV switching receiver, it will have multiple inputs on the back and a single yellow monitor out that goes to the LCD TV. All changes if you are using a HD CATV box, that will have its own HDMI or DVI out and your LCD TV will have the same input, then you can attach the variable out or audio outs on the back of the TV to the receivers inputs, that way you have a little control of the audio level with your TV remote control (if using variable audio outs)

Lightning strike came in via cable not power.

Your tv is going to need internal repairs. I recommend using our premium service to help walk you through these repairs. Or contact a local repair service.

To avoid this in the future I recommend an inline surge protector or a "green" switch.

An inline surge protector makes sure that all power to your tv comes through at the same level and does not spike or fall. It has a battery backup as well.

A green switch is a way of rewiring your home or your entertainment center to allow you to disconnect all power to your entertainment center when you are away, when a storm is coming, or when you are simply not using the system. A remot control can restore the power.

The average home entertainment center has one of the highest drains on electricity in the average home for appliances that are not in use. that is what makes the green switch appealing.
