Gaggia Baby filter is stuck!

When I went to remove the portafilter from the machine, the basket/filter remained stuck in the machine. I hope I'm using the correct terminology. How can I get it out? Thanks!

Never mind! I panicked!! I ran some hot water through which loosened the coffee. I should have taken it out before it dried up. Sorry for the bother!

The filter is stuck on the group head of the machine only by the force of dry coffee which acts like glou and since on the portafilter is secure by a wire spring which is probably loose and couldent hold the filter in place.
So all you need is a pointing screwdriver with edge like a nail or similar and use it on the filter try to level it out and by a little force try to move it and get unstuck. After that you can clean also the coffee remaining's on group head also.
In order to avoid this in future you will have to clean the portafilter from machine after you will make a coffee, replace the portafilter spring with a new one and clean the grouhead and grouphead gasket often with grouphead brush. You may need also to buy cleaning grouphead powder and backwash blid filter to perform backwash frequent. All these cleaning and parts you can easily find in eBay.

SOURCE: Gaggia baby espresso machine-Steam button is stuck

The only thing that comes to mind is that the machine is in steam/hot water mode. Unless you replace the switch and turn off the steam light so that it sends the water to the correct location. Also you might want to remove the shower screen and make sure it is clean.

Testimonial: "Thank you very much for your quick response. I've ordered the steam switch. "

Please try the following:
  • Remove the portafilter and activate the brew switch. Water should stream out of the shower screen. If not you need to clean the group components, or the machine is broken.
To clean the group components, remove the center screw. The screen should drop down, the dispersion disk may be stuck, you can pry it loose with a flat head screw driver. Soak both of these in a descaling solution.
  • With the group components removed (as above) try brewing, water should stream out of a single hole. If not, you may have a faulty pump, or seals.
  • If water streams out normally, be sure that you are using the single espresso basket. This is the smaller basket that snaps into the portafilter, and has sort of a tulip shape.
  • Your group head gasket may be worn, and will need to be replaced. These need replacement ever 6 months to 12 months, and need to replaced even if the machine is rarely used, because they are made from natural rubber that dries out.
Replacements can be found at many retailers online, a few are:
    espressocare.com, espressoparts.com, and seattlecoffeegear.com

My one week old baby gaggia espresso machine is spraying coffee all over my kitchen. Should i take it straight back or am i doing something wrong?

Check the filter basket, if it only has one small hole, it's a pressurised filter and needs the small black Crema Enhancer fitted into the portafilter before fitting the filter basket.

Or buy a spare double filter basket which has lots of holes and does not need the Crema doo-da

The filter basket on my FrancisFrancis X5 sticks to the machine.

Place a glass under the filter basket. Do not return the portafilter. Pull another shot. The pressure will push the filter basket off.
