My microwave works, but is making a large rattling sound during operation. Is it still safe to use? I would rather not invest the $360 for Kitchen Aid to do a service call if it is safe, but just annoying.
It's not a good idea to continue to use it when it's making an unusual noise.
It may be arcing, which can lead to further failure or a fire, or it may be a defective stirrer or fan ,which can lead to uneven cooking or further failure.
$360 for a service call? Are you in Alaska or on Mars? That's insane. Maybe you can contact another servicer in your area?

Be sure the oven is unplugged or the breaker is off.
There
should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit
behind the
control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is
very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.
At
our Web site, we have a video
available showing how to remove a typical
over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.
If you don't find yours, or if you want to look at it without disassembling the oven, you can download it here.

These models use halogen
lamps. You must not touch halogen types with your bare skin, as the
oils
will shorten the bulb life.
You should be able to
get one from a home center or local appliance parts store.
If you order it online (from the link above) it is part # 4375348.

Your problem is your mag tube (Magnatron) you can go to www.partsselect.com and your part number is PS2352604. Their price is $123.44. I work on micro waves myself and have found that if one isn't a built in over the stove like yours, they are not worth repairing because you can buy one cheaper. If this unit is not real old and you can replace this parts yourself it might be worth fixing bit if you are going to have it repaired, it might be cheaper to replace it. Good luck.
P.S. If you open this unit up. Make sure you bleed the capacitor off, this is one that will knock the _ _ _ out of you if you ground it by touching it. Bleed it by using screw driver to short capacitor to ground or case.

SOURCE: How to replace light bulb
Hello, W/D here.
Sorry it took so long to get back to you, the internet crashed, and I had to look at a few things, just to be sure.
It turns out that your oven lamp replacement is very close to an Advantium lamp replacement.
You have to remove the microwave from the wall cabinet, and remove the sheet metal surround. Then, you can access the bulb for replacement. The part # for the bulb is # 4375348 (whirlpool). These are available at Lowe's, H/Depot, or any appliance parts supply store.
I have an Advantium, and after two replacements, I cut a hole in the sheet metal, and fitted a metal "peep-hole" somewhat larger than I needed to get to the screws holding the bulb, and I screwed the cover plate down to the sheet metal. The result was that I wound up being able to slide the microwave out about 6" and change the bulb as opposed to having to remove the entire microwave from the cabinet holding it.
Hope that this is just what you needed.
Respectfully yours, --W/D--
