Diagnose Ignition Control Module

My natural gas pool heater is not igniting. The Ignition Control Module LED Flashes 3 times during initial ignition which indicates on the Ignition Control Module panel "Ignition Lockout". What is the solution? I have gas flow, and no other LED's @ the heater touch control are ON. Thanks

If the heater fails to ignite after three attempts, the heater will automatically go into Lock Out. This is a safety feature on the heater.

Things for you to look at to see what is causing the problem are the display panel and diagnostic lights. When you turn on the heater, is it reading the correct water temp? If not, the Thermister has gone bad and will need to be replaced. When you try to start the heater, is there an Error Code displayed? Which of the Service Lights are coming on when the heater will not light? If it is the Serivce System, that is usually low flow of water. You may have a dirty filter, skimmer or pump basket full of debris, or a valve not completely open.

If the Service System light is the one coming on, then you will need to take off the top two halves of the heater and turn over the Display Panel. There are diagnostic lights on the back side of the panel. There may be a red light next to any of the following:

AGS, AFS, SFS, HLS, PS or THERMISTOR

If there is a red light next to one of these, then that is what has malfunctioned. If you need an Owner's Manual for the heater, you can find one online at the following link:

Try the owners manual for these pool heaters. They have a detailed troubleshooting guide that should let you know what you need to do.

Troubleshooting blink codes

There is actually a legend on the ignition control module that you see flashing. This is a very basic troubleshooting code, usually it blinks 3 times, meaning ignition lockout (heater tried to fire unsuccessfully 3 times)

Hayward spa pool heater pilot on, heat does not ignite burners

Don't really think the gas company would be checking your pool heater, they most likely just checked their gas connections. I would suspect a few things; control module, thermostat, gas valve, pressure switch. You say you get pilot light, and as long as it doesn't turn off and on, as if it is not being sensed, then I would suggest the control module is fine. If the pilot and main burner is controlled by the same valve, and your pilot light stays lit, then I would suggest the thermostat is fine. I take back the pressure switch since the pilot will ignite. I would check power to the gas valve solenoid and see if the control module is trying to open the gas valve. I would suspect low voltage, probably around 24v. If voltage is present and no gas, I would say you found the problem.

My 200,000 BTU heater was converted to propane. Electrical and propane connections met manufacture guidelines. Heater keeps on flicking to Service Heater randomly. Was checked by HVAC tech and found...

If your manifold pressure is off I want to think you did'nt change the washer in the gas pipes inside the heater. It is inside the rear union in the gas pipe that feeds the gas valve. You can get one of these from your pool store or you may be able to go on line to get one sent from the manuifactur.
