To setup your router wireless security

  • Support site here http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/product/list/q/routers/session/L3NpZC9qa1EyWmhaag%3D%3D
  • Support for that device here http://www.belkin.com/support/download/download.asp?download=F5D7130&lang=1&mode=
  • Guide for setting up the router with Mac OS here http://setup.belkin.com/guide.html

I cant find your router listed - if you could comment back with EXACT model and version of the router - the device listed is the adapter
In principle: Connect your Mac to the router with a cable to one of the LAN connections - Now you need to Log into the setup of the router - to do that open a web browser, In the browser address bar - http://192.168.0.1 Enter (admin) for the user name and also for the password. Now you can goto the wireless section or secruity section and set the type of encyption to WEP, WPA, WPA-PSK etc and then make up your own password

Depends on what you can set up or what knowledge you have. I would use this for today's networks.

My ipod could not connect to the internet

Hi suzettemaica,

I see that you are having issue connecting your iPod to your Wireless Network.

I believe that your Wireless Network has a Network key or a Password on it for your security right, to be able to get your iPod conencted wirelessly you will need to disable the Wireless security because mobile phone do not have same security that a Wireless Router would have once you have disabled the Wireless Security of your Router then you can connect your iPod.

To get security on your Wireless you will need to enable the MAC Address filtering, this will be an alternative to a wireless security on Routers.

You mentioned you have a Belkin wireless Router, you did not mention what model but that is OK, I will try to give details as simple as I can for the wireless issue and the MAC Address Filtering.

Click on this Link this will give you a basic on the Router settings, but first we will need to find out what your Router's Default Gateway is.

To find out your Router Default Gateway you can click on start then type CMD on the white bar and type in CMD right click on it then select run as administrator.

This should open a new window DOS to be exact, you will see C:\ with a blinking cursor and most probably you computer name after C:\ then type in ipconfig then press enter , a list should show look for default gateway .

Once you have your default gateway open up IE or any Browser that you have and type the Default gateway on the Address Bar then press enter this should Open a page of you Routers Settings.

now you can click on this Link to see what you see from your router or you can just basically use what you have from your router which is exactly where your settings will be. Link

Oh yeah for your Router I am not sure if it has a user name or a password since I did not get what Model you have, but you can try to leave the user name blank and the password blanks as well to get in which is a default with Belkin.

Look for Wireless then under should be security click on security then you will see security mode and a drop down select None to disable the password on the Router then click Apply Changes.

Now for the MAC Address you should see Filtering then below is Mac Address just click on it then it will be asking Mac Addresses of all the devices that you need to connect on the Wireless network to be able to register them in the Router for access to the Internet the Mac Address can also be found by goin into DOS and doing the IPCONFIG for you iPod you can just connect to the router with out the Mac Address filtering first then go in the Router settings you should see the Mac Address of the devices connected to the Belkin Router.

I hope that i was clear enough for this.

Have a nice day,

To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router’s wireless settings configured and also needs the wireless cards in all the laptops and or computers to be configured with the router’s wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.

To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.
To access the Internet you need to connect the DSL or cable modem to the WAN (Internet) port on the wireless router.

Setting up a belkin n wireless router. How do I

You have to go into the setup for the router. Most default to the 192.168.1.1 IP address. You would type that address into your internet browser and hit enter. Then you will be asked for a name and password. If you have your belkin manual it will tell you the default name and password. Once in the settings you can change the password. You can also turn off SSID broadcasting, enable the highest level of security that your particular router supports in conjunction with your computer and enable MAC authentication. If you enable MAC authentication you have to type in the MAC address for each device you wish to have access to the router.

Belkin lock

To secure your wireless network and prevent unauthorized access you need to setup your wireless router with these settings :-
When you first setup your wireless router you should change the login password and then the wireless configuration, setup WAP or WAP2 encryption (WAP2 is the strongest encryption) and change the SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
For further wireless protection enable MAC address filtering. The MAC address of the wireless card in your computer is entered in the router MAC address filter table, which allows only the wireless card with this MAC address to connect to the wireless router.
Also if your router has a firewall then you should enable this feature.
The wireless card on the computer needs to be configured with the wireless router's settings. The LAN cable can be removed and the computer communicates wirelessly with the router.

Belkin router is working with desk top computer. add laptop

It's asking for the security word that you entered into the router when you set up wireless security. You will need to enter both the wireless SSID, and the security key to make the system work.

Wireless network security

alright... it does depend on the model of belkin itself but here goes... assuming you have windows since most people with mac are QUITE familiar with PCs Open an Internet Explorer window on your computer and type in http://192.168.2.1 in the address bar. This will take you to the Belkin router's web based configuration page. You will get a login page. Leave the password blank. Click Submit .On the left side of the page, click Channel and SSID below Wireless . . set it to have a wireless password... (again the exacts depend on your model) by doing this a computer must have that password you made to access the connection.. now depending on you computers operating system(ie: windows 95,98,200,ME,NT,XP vista or a mac) will depend on how you put this "password" into your computer... windows- START-CONTROL PANEL-(network and internet options)NETWORK CONNECTIONS-VIEW AVAILABLE WIRELESS NETWORKS and when you try to reconnect to your internet connection you will be prompted for the password... IF however your wireless adapters have their own wireless clients then you will have to contact their tech support instead of that last paragraph heres the number to belkin tech support in case your router will not allow you into the interface 1 800 2BELKIN x2263
