There are F key for toggleing and locking in the Numeric keypad that doubles as your alpha numeric board needs to be released. This is usually a combination of keys which share a similar color.

4 Using the keypads
The computer has an embedded numeric keypad and also supports an optional external numeric keypad
or an optional external keyboard that includes a numeric keypad.
Component Description
(1)
fn key Executes frequently used system functions when pressed in
combination with a function key or the esc key.
(2) Embedded numeric keypad Can be used like the keys on an external numeric keypad.
(3) num lk key Enables the embedded numeric keypad when pressed in
combination with the fn key.
8 Chapter 4 Using the keypads
Using the embedded numeric keypad
The 15 keys of the embedded numeric keypad can be used like the keys on an external keypad. When
the embedded numeric keypad is turned on, each key on the keypad performs the function indicated by
the icon in the upper-right corner of the key.
Enabling and disabling the embedded numeric keypad
Press fn+num lk to enable the embedded numeric keypad. Press fn+num lk again to return the keys to
their standard keyboard functions.
NOTE: The embedded numeric keypad will not function while an external keyboard or numeric keypad
is connected to the computer.
Switching key functions on the embedded numeric keypad
You can temporarily alternate the functions of keys on the embedded numeric keypad between their
standard keyboard functions and their keypad functions by using the fn key or the fn+shift key
combination.
● To change the function of a keypad key to keypad functions while the keypad is off, press and hold
the fn key while pressing the keypad key.
● To use the keypad keys temporarily as standard keys while the keypad is on:
◦ Press and hold the fn key to type in lowercase.
◦ Press and hold fn+shift to type in uppercase.
Using an optional external numeric keypad
Keys on most external numeric keypads function differently according to whether num lock is on or off.
(Num lock is turned off at the factory.) For example:
● When num lock is on, most keypad keys type numbers.
● When num lock is off, most keypad keys function like the arrow, page up, or page down keys.
To turn num lock on or off on an external keypad as you work:
▲ Press the num lk key on the external keypad, not on the computer.

This is from HP's documentation, but it is similar to my Toshiba

Peace,

-t

If you are getting numbers when hitting letters on the 2133 you need to press shift+fn+num lk simutaneously and this will turn off number lock and make your letter keys work again.

How i can enble function key

HP laptops have the ability to lock the blue special function keys on, making numerical data entry easier on laptop models that do not have the room for dedicated numerical keypads. Because the key combination to lock the function keys is so simple, however, it is easy for those who wouldn't normally use this ability to do so accidentally. When the function keys are locked, pressing certain keys will result in numbers being typed rather than letters. Unlock the function keys to alleviate this issue.

Press the "Fn" and "Num Lk" keys on the keyboard simultaneously. The "Number Lock" indicator light should turn off, indicating that the letter keys will once again type letters when pressed. This combination should work on the majority of recent HP laptops. If it does not, try one of the alternate key combinations in this article's remaining steps. Press the "Fn" and "F11" keys simultaneously, then attempt to type a letter. If the combination does not work, continue to the next step. Press the "Fn" and "Scroll Lock" keys simultaneously, then attempt to type a letter. Continue to the next step if this does not work. Press the "Fn," "Scroll Lock" and "F11" keys simultaneously.

Help! i have a problem with my keyboard, some of the letter that i type come out as numbers! any ideas??

You probably have accidently turned on numlk which turns mjkluio789 into 0123456789
Most laptops require a two key combination of Fn (function key) and NumLk (numeric lock key) to toggle it off and on. Sometimes there is a seperate NumLk by itself as it is on most desktop keyboards.
If this doesn't do it let me know the make and model of your laptop and I'll see if I can help further.

I have an Asus X58L laptop, For some reason there is a letters lock and I do not know how to unlock it. So if I press letter u it gives me 4, if I press p it gives me - and so on, unless I press Fn button

It sounds like you have the num lock switched on, most laptop keyboards are too small to have a separate numeric keypad so use the letter keys on the right side of the keyboard for this. (you should note numbers as well as the expected letters on the face of these keys).

To turn off the num lock, hold down the Fn key and press Ins. (located top right of the keyboard).

My dell laptop types numbers instead of letters on some keys without pressing fn key

HI,
If you Are writing numbers instead of letters when you press the keyboard of your laptop and you must hold down the Function key (Fn) to write normally.

This is due to the fact that the digital lock is activated. To solve this, simply press the Fn+Numlk or depending of the model, press the button or Fn + Shift +Numlk

Hope This Helps

Keyboard is stuck in numeric mode. Can't type

On the Panasonic Toughbook CF-51 there is a key located on the top right next to the F12 function key called "NumLk" or Num Lock.
Press this key once and the embedded numeric keypad is enabled.
Press it a second time and it is disabled.
How do you know if it is enabled or disabled?
Simple: Observe the LED above the keyboard. If the second light with the square symbol and the number "1" is lit up, then the NumLock is enabled. If that LED is not lit up it is disabled.

Good Luck.
