This is almost certainly a blown thermistor. This device is located at the air outlet on the microwave. This is a thermally sensitive resistor that cuts power if the unit overheats for safety. It can fail because of age also. Replace with the save value unit. You can get this part from electronics stores like Radio Shack.

What is a thermistor? I have checked the parts list for my GE Space Saver Microwave oven Model # JVM1440WH04. There is no part called a thermistor. Could it be listed by a different name? Thanks, Dee
The GE Model # JVM1440WH04 does not have a thermistor as such. I was informed that function is done on the circuit board. Check if the outlet has power. Try a lamp. If not you should check the output to see if the GFI (ground fault interupter) is tripped. Next check the circuit box for tripped breaker. If unit does not work on a good outlet and under warranty, return to seller for repair. If not under warranty check the fuse. You can see a parts diagram athttp://www.pcappliancerepair.com/model/i... Unplug unit before checking fuse and alway have something in the oven before operating. A glass of water is ok to absorb the microwave.

I have the same problem. My Ge model JVM1190 just quit when I turned of the timer. Was not using the microwave at the time. Do you think the solution is the same or could it be something else.
I had the same problem with my JVM230. It suddenly just quit, like a fuse blew. I found the open fuse right behind the front upper white panel and replaced it. It tried to run but the fuse blew immediately. Now I will look at the thermistor.
Cheap fix if that is it.
Does anyone know the resistance values? Is it positive or negative temp coefficient?
Same type of problem. Low 2-second hum and all stopped. All went dark, no power whatsoever. No tripped breaker so I removed the grille assembly on my GE JVM230WV001 and found the 250V 20A fuse. Bought a 2-pack at Home Depot for $3.00. Hope this solves the problem. If it blows again, I will also check the Thermister.
