Of course this problem can be fixed but only temporarily..This is the main problem with LCD screen displays.Either you replace the screen and use it for the time being or sell it off before the liquid leaks out completely.

SOURCE: Minolta Dimage A1 viewer is BLACK

If the CCD is broken then you'll get a distorted and discoloured image on the main LCD screen and in the viewfinder, but both will play back images recorded prior to the fault perfectly.

What you seem to have is a very common fault which eventually seems to affect all A1's and A2's, and which may explain why KM fitted a fixed viewfinder to the A200. basically, there's a flexible circuit board (pcb) which snakes it's way throughout the camera. Where it passes up into the viewfinder it's simply not protected enough from a couple of hard plastic edges which it passes over.

Eventually, one or more conductive tracks fail and the ones which power the backlight for the miniature LCD screen in the viewfinder are the first to go.

Replacing the flexi pcb is simply not a practical option as the camera has to be dismantled virtually to component level and new pcbs's are made of purest unobtanium. Even if you could find one, KM never beefed it up to solve the problem.

The best you can do is to remove the two screws on the underside of the viewfinder and remove the lower cover they hold in place. Turn on the camera and make sure the viewing switch is set to the viewfinder. At the lower right corner is a little piece of blue (sometimes yellow) tape and this is KM's pathetic attempt to prevent the problem occurring. If you gently lift the tape and flex the pcb a bit, then you may find that there is a position where the backlight illuminates. You'll probably need plenty of goes to get it right, but if you screw the cover back on and lower the viewfinder back into it's resting position it's often possible to keep the finder illuminated. You'll then need some means of locking the finder so that it cannot easily be raised again. This repair rarely lasts for long though as even minor knocks can cause it to fail and the even worse news is that the damage gradually spreads to other tracks killing the finder completely.

SOURCE: My konica minolta Dimage z2 doesn't focus

Your problem may be that the camera is "locked" on manual focus. If so, you will need to go to the menu, scroll to "2" menu in "P" mode, and click on "focusing mode". From there, hit "single focus or continuous focus." It should correct the problem. Also, is the lens dirty? A dirty lens will not benefit the camera. The light may be too low, also. Try using a flashlight to focus, then take the picture.

SOURCE: Broken camera

This camera came out in 2003 and retailed for $400. It's only a 3.2MP camera with a 1.5 inch lcd screen...not much by today's standards but was quite a camera in its day. I'm guessing by your list of problems that it would be quite expensive to fix if you could even find someone to fix it. I would seriously consider putting the money toward a new camera.

Dimage a1 switches on, can view photos on play back but wont show image in view finder or rear screen or take photographs

Hi prune_muffin, my Konica Minolta A1 camera failed during 2007 with those exact symptoms. The sensor used in the A1 and many other cameras/camcorders of that vintage were made by Sony and have been recognised as subject to failure due to an Integrated Circuit packaging failure. Sony bought the KM company and from April 2006 have aranged support for KM products. Sony have generously offered to repair failed cameras of that era, at no charge, when the failure is due to a failed Sony sensor. My camera was repaired by the appointed Australian service company and returned within 3 weeks - I only paid the postage to send it in for repair.
You should make enquiries re your camera problem with the Sony Camera Support Center in your location.

Unable to see anything through the eye piece or on the lcd. I can point to something and flash will go and it will sound like it took a picture but unable to see anything. Lens don't turn either for...

Hi!
If it shows the menu, it could be CCD problem. This is a well known problem with the A1. You should contact your local Konica-Minolta (Sony) service center and see if they can change the CCD for free as they were factory fault, if I remember it right.
