Kenwood Home Theater System digital display does not work.
Kenwood VR-605 Home Theater System digital display seems to have a short or something as it just gradually disappeared sporatically. Now it doesn't show at all so I have no idea what I'm doing when I push buttons.

CHECK FOR CLEARED COOLING VENTS & FOR PROPERLY WORKING COOLING FANS. THIS WILL CAUSE SHUTDOWN OF THE UNIT. IF ITS ALL CLEAR, YOU PROBABLY HAVE A POWER SUPPLY ISSUE.
Electronics companies use other major companies as a vehicle for their products. The VW Group in this case is one of the major corporations that Kenwood uses.
Make sure your source is playing something that has been recorded in dolby digital, not all dvd's and tv boxes transmit dolby digital. what is your source?
HI, this amp may need to be reset. also, i would check the voltage selector on the back side to make sure the switch is set to 110-120v. once this is done, you will need to reset the microcomputer. here is the procedure.
The microcomputer may malfunction (unit cannot be operated, or shows an erroneous display) if the power cord is unplugged while the power is ON, or due to some other external factor. If this happens, execute the following procedure to reset the microcomputer and return the unit to its normal operating condition.
Procedure- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet, then plug it back in while holding down the POWER key.
ok, after this reset, if your receiver isn't operational, it may have serious damage to its power board.
Yes you will need a pre-amp to connect a turntable to this unit. For the AUX input you will need something that can output 400mV into 47k ohm, somewhere like RadioShack should have what you need.
Please update the question & let us know if the information given was useful to you - Good Luck!
There is a cold solder connection on the display device, on the display driver board, or on or in the power supply that supplys the display voltage to the driver board. The only way you can repair it is if you have some soldering experience and or some electronic troubleshooting skills. If you go in and start poking around, and you poke at the wrong thing, It will smoke on you, as solid state electronics are very unforgiving when it comes to shorting out something, even if its for a blink of an eye!!! If you really like the unit, take it into a repair shop, as it should'nt cost to much to repair. If the units 3 to 6 years old, Maybe its time to think about upgrading to a newer unit??. Good Luck
