LG ice maker only making two ice cubes at a time

My LG side-by-side refrigerator/freezer is only making two ice cubes at a time. When water dispenses to fill the ice tray, it's only filling the first two ice cube bins, freezes and dispenses correctly, and then only fills the two bins again. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm only seeing a filter in the refrigerator and nothing in the freezer by the ice maker shutoff.

  • plettem Mar 22, 2009

Thanks for your input Superplumber. The only shutoff that I'm seeing is in the line itself going to the icemaker (t-valve) and it is all the way open. There definitely appears to be water in the line. I will contact the manufacturer (LG) and see how far I can get with ideas before having a service person out or start buying parts. I truly appreciate your help. I'll update you once I'm able to find out more from the manufacturer.

I have the same problem. I just replaced the ice maker a couple months ago. It's been very slow in keeping up with my use. I just noticed that only 2 of the 10 cubes get filled with water. They are full sized cubes, but only 2 at a time. I did not see an answer to this woman's question. Any help is appreciated. Dave

Ice cubes wont eject into bin and water just overflows into the bin and freezes. How do I fix it

  • Anonymous Mar 23, 2014

beyond replacing the ice maker dispenser container that the ice falls into, we are at a loss. It worked fine the first couple years, but now even a new dispenser container did not solve the problem. There are plastic blades at the bottom of the container where the ice cubes are being trapped and jamming the works. Is it a poor design? What can be done?

we have changed the filter several times and it never helped. Ran the water and filled up several gallons of water. Never made a difference

Colenoid in the ice dispenser may be clogged or have a small amount of trash in it. Is there a filter on before the fridge (just after the ice maker shutoff)?

  • Anonymous Mar 22, 2009

I apologize for not being more clear. When I say ice maker shutoff I am referring to the one behind the fridge. It may be in the wall. It's basically just a shutoff valve for the water going to the refrigerator. With that being said, since you DO have one inside the fridge it may certainly be a clogged solenoid in the ice maker itself, or it could be due to poor pressure, or lack there of, going into the fridge. Check the shutoff at the wall, if there is one, there should be... and ensure that it is fully open. If it is, then you may need to have the solenoid or control valve in the ice maker replaced. Unfortunately this may be something you want to call an appliance company for. Before you call and start spending money though, make a quick call to the manufacturer to see if they have a simple solution to what may be a common problem with their product. They may even cover the parts. I wouldn't hold my breath on the labor though. I'll keep checking for updates on your situation :). Good luck!

Your very welcome! This is a great site, unfortunately there is only so much you and I can do together to remedy the problem without seeing it. Again, I'll watch for updates.

Samsung side by side ice maker not working

You have 2 separate valves, 1 for the water dispenser and 1 for the ice maker. (otherwise your ice maker would overflow every time you got water from the dispenser and your dispenser would flow every time the ice maker went to refill.) They are fed from the same tubing.

The cube/crushed ice motor is completely separate from the ice maker itself and should have absolutely no bearing on the water flow.

You have narrowed down the problem quite nicely to the ice maker water valve. There is one more thing to check though, the connector. There should be a multi-contact connector from the ice maker to the back wall of the freezer, usually 6-9 wires. Pull that apart and check the cord side (ice maker side) for any corrosion. BE CAREFUL NOT TO TOUCH THE OTHER SIDE AS THERE IS LIVE 110V!!! If you don't see any corrosion, still try try disconnecting and reconnecting 5-10 times and see if that solves your problem. If you see corrosion, unplug the refrigerator before working on the back wall part of the connector. [This connector besides powering the ice maker also allows the ice maker to control the water valve which can't be inside the freezer]

GE GSH25JFRF BB ice maker doesn't dispense. Water dispenses and ice maker makes ice but won't come out.

There should be a plastice hinge cover on the left top hinge on freezer door. Take it off and press the plug together firmly. Try that and let me know, Sea Breeze

RS267 Ice is not dispensing

The freezer temp is not cold enough, the ice cubes melted and giot welded together and now the motor will not turn, you have to unplug it, wait until it melt a little take the drawer out and get rid of the old ice, clean the tray, and make sure it is completely dried before putting it back in, use paper towel to dry it.

Ice maker sprays water...

sounds like the inlet part on the ice maker is froze over or not lined up in the opening of it right or a possibilty that the ice maker is leaking out the water if that is the case the ice maker needs replaced

Water dispenser on front of refrigerator door does not dispense water. Ice Cube maker continues to make ice cubes. Defrosting doesn't fix problem.

Water dispensing solenoid is bad. You need to replace the solenoid valve. This typically is independent of the ice maker.

Have an LG LFX25960TT refrigerator with in door ice maker. The ice maker only makes 2 to 3 ice cubes at a time. (Too slow for my family's needs.) It appears like it doesn't get enough time to fill. Is...

Check to make sure the water supply to the refrig is good and the inlet screen where the water line connects to the refrig is clean. You can change the amount of water fill by pressing the button on the left side of the ice maker. (indicator lights above button show setting) Selecting "Ice Plus" on front of dispenser panel increases ice production for a 24 hour period. Ice maker should produce 6 cubes per cycle, aprox.. 100 to 130 cubes in 24 hours depending on freezer compartment temp, room temp, number of door openings, etc.

Ice Maker Freezing Up and Ice not dispensing

Check your ice cube tray to see if it is warped. Mine was. I took the tray off and dipped it into boiling water and remoulded it to the original shape and re-installed it. So far no problems. The tray gets warped because of the ice cube release mechanism. The tray is rotated around until it meets a block on one corner which creates the twisting motion we used to do on manual trays. Over time it tends to warp the tray. Good luck
