I used Everest home edition to find the wireless drivers for my DELL C640 laptop.   The wireless card in it is an  ntel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B MiniPCI Adapter (IBM). I've downloaded the wireless driver from Intel's website, here:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=944&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Professional〈=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go!#DRI
It's the 3rd result in that search page. If the link doesn't work, simply search for Intel® PRO/Wireless 2100 Network Connection on Intel's site.
That Dell C640 wireless driver works fine for me, I'm using the wireless card to type this :)
good luck!

Wireless is built in. Without driver installed the model does not show, so knowing what driver to use by model number is not option. Dell support now uses download app which must sit on machine, with Inet connect, but no connect without wireless working.

How do you solve this?

Pop out the wireless card and look for the model number. It's probably an Intel card. Go on the site of the manufacturer and download the driver.

I HAVE A DELL C540/C640 MODEL PP01L I WANT TO KNOW THAT IN THIS MODEL CAN I ACCESS WIFI OR NOT?

If you model has the optional wireless card installed.
To check, click Start - Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager - expand Network Adapters and if the wireless card is not listed then you don't have a wireless card.
If there is a wireless card and it has a yellow ? against it then the wireless card driver was not installed. In this case -
You can download the drivers from the Compaq/HP WEBsupport/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the XP orVista Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Click onthis link to download the drivers: -

Wireless problem 4 ma dell c640 laptop

Hi. first is to verify whether you have a wireless card or not by going to the device manager from the control panel.

Expand the network adapter and check if your system came with a WLAN or wireless card. If it's a Dell True Mobile wireless card, you can download the latest driver from this link:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R69905&SystemID=LAT_PNT_P4N_C640&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=2491&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=2&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=0&libid=5&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=90951

then try connecting to your router by right-clicking the network icon from the taskbar (lower right-hand corner of your screen) then select view available networks and if you see your network there, click it and then connect.

I am going to install a wireless card in my Dell Latitude C640 laptop. I recently watched an installation video on youtube. I noticed there was some sort of wireless antenne mentioned. Are they...

i dont think the c640 usually comes with wireless so i dont think the antenna will be in there so you might have to get them. but you can take off the ram cover on the bottom and see if the wires are there. this shows the wireless card in there

Using Pro/Wireless 2200BG with Latitude C640?

OK generally if you have the drivers and it fits in the slot than there is NO reason why it would not work. As for software, one goes to the manufacturers web site and download relevant drivers, & install.

No 3d acceleration in Vista on ATI 7500

Well, I'm amazed a C640 runs Vista at all. There's no reason to buy a new hard drive, except for the novenlty of having one loaded with Vista on a C640. It's a great laptop, and runs Windows XP PRo perfectly well. If you have one od the Dell XP install disks, just boot from it, and whenever it finds the vista install, hit excape, then at the next screen hit "D" to delete the partition, then choose "quick format", and load the Operation system. If you need an install disk, let me know. Good luck
