Generic text driver resetting printer settings

Is there any way to stop the Windows Generic/Text printer from resetting the printer label settings. I need it to print Direct-Thermal, however when printing via the Windows Generic driver it resets to requiring a Ribbon. Saving settings permanent on the printer does not have any effect. Thanks

It sounds like the problem is with the media sensor. Make sure you haven't loaded the ribbon through the same slot that the paper enters on the media guide. There is a reflective metal plate above the media that reflects the sensor from below the media.

SOURCE: my zm400 keeps reverting back to direct thermal

did it stay on direct thermal if you not doing any print job ?
then i assume you the problem is when you printing .In ZEBRA DESIGNER, there's a printing preference that can be set up... i think u selected direct thermal when you print with zebra designer, that's why whenever u start printing, it show RIBBON IN again.
the solution is, Just changed the printing method from zebra designer.

if you aren't using zebra designer, then the problem at your driver. Open Printer & Faxes, then right click your Printer and klik on Printing Preferenced. There u can set up the printing method to Thermal Transfer.

The thing is....... changing the Setting from LCD panel won't change the setting on the driver.

i hope this will help you

WE cant'n install to Windows 7, because we have only flopy-disc. So what can we do?

Star Micronics does not provide support for those models anymore and there are no drivers for windows 7 for most of those models. Go through the add printer wizard and choose windows update when you get to the screen with the manufacturers. There are a few old model choices you can try. The other option is to use the generic text driver by choosing generic as the company and generic text only as the model.

Argox 214 not compatible with vista

Thermal printers seem to be notorious for that.

Try using Vista's "Generic/Text" printer driver (you'll need to go into device manager, select to update the drivers, go to Have Disk, select "generic" as the brand). That will send raw text to the printer. Many thermal printers support this.

After you do that, you will also need to go into your printer settings and setup a custom page size that matches the size of your labels. Then you should be good to go.

TO Print the image using IPL.

I've printed images over 500kb. Can you print a small image? If not, perhaps the driver is the problem.

If you're trying to send a text file of IPL commands to the printer, set up a Generic Text printer driver, to to send the file as ascii characters instead of as a graphic image. You can set this up in addition to your Intermec driver.

Go to Printers and Faxes, Add Printer, Next, Select the Port, Select "Generic" Manufacturer, "Generic / Text Only" Printer, and give it a name like "Text". Cycle the printer power to clear previous attempts, then print the file to this printer name.

"Generic / Text Only" driver printer and cyrillic

Unfortunately printing Cyrillic(Russian) is driver dependent and your application can only use generic/text driver.

I am trying to hook my printer up to my new computer and the disk I have is not working. i do not have a cd for microline 590 elite dot matrix drivers

The drivers should be on the company website, if these are not working for you the generic text driver in Windows will work for text only printing. If you do graphics or formatted invoices, etc. on the printer Epson and Okidata both make pretty generic print drivers that should work for a microline printer.

Generic / Text Only (To File) printer driver cutting off at 85 columns wide

I found a solution to my problem above. In the Generic / Text Only driver I chose a page setup of "ledger" (as opposed to letter, legal, etc.) and that produced the correct output with all of the columns.

Printing from windows

as i understand, DPL will works if you are using a serial comunication. When you say "using Generic Text Driver" i can see you are trying to print snce parallel port, as any other prnter. If that is the case, you can forget the DPL. Install an apropiated DATAMAX printer driver, and print from Wordpad.
