Lenovo G580 Laptop Logo

Bios Flash Hi, I just got a Lenovo G580 laptop and upgraded it to Windows 8. I then decided to dual boot it with opens-use 12.3. It worked for a week, and then things got messed up. I am not able to get to bios, and when the machine boots - up only a blank screen is displayed. How can I reset my bios? If someone has the bios file, kindly upload it for me because Lenovo does not provide one on the site.

Are you sure you can't access your BIOS, or the OS selection screen?

In most PCs, the BIOS is accessible by DEL or F2, try to run those steps.
If the OS selection option is gone, you have to use another PC to Google the recovery process, and to execute it I am pretty sure you'll be needing your Opensus liveCD.

Testimonial: "hi Matthew Adams, the screen went blank and I can not access it by pressing f2. my hard drive boots on another notebook if i swap it (both windows 8 and opensuse 12.3. my machine has the new efi bios from phoenix. I took it back to the warranty center they are yet to give me a feedback. what i do not understand is how the efi bios was messed up and how trying to recover it is such a headache than the old bios. thank you for your reply, let me wait on the warranty feedback "

How do i remove or reset the bios password on a Lenovo G580 laptop?

First of all, you need the present password. Then straight after turning the computer on you press F12 or insert multiple times after each other. That way you will stop the normal boot and enter the BIOS settings. There you most likely will be prompted for the password and then under security you can disable or change it.

My lenovo laptop g580 wont boot even if camera and indicator lights are on

Sounds like a bad monitor or ram. Does the hard drive, fan etc make noise when first turning it on?

If there's noises indicating it's working, it's probably a hardware issue.

To recover the boot from CD ROM option in UEFI in bios setup on my laptop.

I had so much trouble trying to install windows with the UEFI that I ended up disabling it and used normal Legacy instead ,it took weeks trying to find a solution but I didnt find one .

G580 WILL NOT SHUT DOWN

In windows 8, Set to High Performance, set Sleep and Hibernate to Never, set What to do when Lid is closed, adjust Advanced Power Options to your preference. Always Shut Down the Laptop and unplug when not in use to prevent damage due to power surges. I just bought a new computer (Lenovo G580, Model Name: 20157, PC Laptops with Windows 8) on November 23, 2012. A Windows 8 problem? I have experienced my cursor jumping around randomly while typing

Straight from the user guide, just discovered it today because I have also been having this frustrating problem. Use Fn + F6 - it is a toggle switch to enable and disable the Touchpad. I have a Lenovo wireless mouse now instead.
