Singer curvy I've had my machine for over a year and I just recently noticed that the decorative stitches aren't working. The basic straight stitch works fine and tension is good, but any of the decorative stitches just sew straight.

There could be something wrong with the cam that does the decorative stitches, you may want to have the machine checked..

SOURCE: Husqvarna Prisma 980 decorative stitch cassettes don't work

Hi,
On that machine, the cassettes aren't actually computer chips. Each cassette has a little spot of white on a certain little area you must find (top right I'm pretty sure). Look in the machine at that point. There is a sensor that looks for that white spot, and as it identifies it, it changes stitches according to that cassette. Either the sensor is blocked, gone bad, or you can put a fresh coat of white paint on with white out. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Singer Touch Tronic 2001 Sewing Machine Stuck on Sewing Straight Stitch Only

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago. I finally figured out that I had the straight stitch needle plate (the one with the single hole), rather than the zig zag needle plate (the one with the curved hole). When I changed plates, it worked fine.

SOURCE: I have a Sapphire 835,and

Hi

Loops on the bottom of the fabric = inadequate top tension
Loops on top of the fabric = inadequate bottom tension. this is probably a tension problem. there is a discrepancy between top and bobbin thread tension. The looping is a too loose tension in the bobbin or too tight a tension on the top thread. in either case, and regardless of cause, the two are out of synch. Try adjusting bobbin tension according to your machine type. after adjusting the bobbin tension sew on a piece of scrap. use a medium sized stitch. check and adjust and test until you are satisfied. If the looping isn't severe, adjust top string tension slightly looser.

Here are other causes for this problem, but they are more unusual and should be considered only if the common remedies don't answer.

If it's the bottom thread, the bobbin isn't wound or loaded correctly, or it's the wrong bobbin. Check to see the bobbin fits in the bobbin case properly. Don't mess with the bobbin tension unless you have to. If the machine had been working before and is not now, the problem is most likely not in the bobbin tension. The adjustment range is really tiny, and it's easy to mess it up.If it still loops after you redo the bobbin, you might also check the parts around the bobbin. Clean up all the fuzz that had collected around the bobbin. Remove all fragments of thread and fuzz with brush and vacuum (don't use compressed air or canned air or blow -- it pushes fuzz farther into the machine where you can't get to it.) Pay special attention to the area around the feed dogs and the sewing hook area.
Lubricate the machine according to the manual's instructions if the manual describes using oil.

Please get back to us if you have further query or else please accept the solution.

I have a Singer Curvy 8780. All I want to do is sew a straight stitch. What are the settings?

You'll need stitch pattern 01 in the first group after you press the utility stitch button (top button on the left of the 4 way arrow keys). Press button A (the left most up-arrow below the LCD screen). Use buttons B (move left) & C (move right) to select the needle position and D (shorter) & E (longer) to adjust the stitch length. E is the right-hand button in the group. Start with the tension set to Auto and adjust as needed based on your fabric and thread. For normal straight seams, start with the default settings.

Singer has the manual for the Curvy 8780 on the product site: http://www.singerco.com/products/1545/8780-curvy#type-support . The direct link to the manual is http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/089a99d1802347d9441d83e8a591e6d0db17b80c.pdf . See page 30 for the stitch pattern; page 40 starts a longer discussion of straight stitching.

I hope this helps.

Call Singer at 1-800-4singer, sounds like a buttonhole lever problem. Is it like that on all styles of buttonholes? Check that out before you call them, and make sure that you pull the lever all the way down.

I recently rec'd Singer Curvy 8770 as gift. Trying to use for first time and thread on underside of stitches is loose. Have tension on top dial as far as 9. I hve been sewing for forty+ yrs.

Try this, totally rethread with the presser foot up, then pull the top thread, it should move smoothly, then lower the presser foot, now pull the thread, it should barely move. This seats the thread in the tension discs.
