As long as the xD card was not formatted it is possible to recover the images that were accidently erased or lost. You can go to the following website link and download an image recovery software program that is free of charge.
http://www.z-a-recovery.com/
You want to download a program called Zero Assumption Recovery. It is a very simple program to use and many people have had much success in recovering lost images or corrupted.

Data recovery is a booming industry, and many appropriate services and software can be found by searching regional phone and business directories or the Internet for terms such as "image recovery" or "data recovery".

Have you tried this camera memory card on your computer?
If this memory card can be read functionally on your computer, you'd better copy off all your stored photos to another memory card or drive and format this card immediately to check whether it can still be read on your camera.
But, if this card unfortunately also gets the same error on your computer, you'd better try to apply a memory card photo recovery freeware to get all your stored photos back successfully for free:
http://www.freeware-fix.blogspot.com/2013/03/memory-card-recovery.html
In fact, this freeware helped a lot as the external hard drive of my friend was mistakenly formatted. It finally restored all the needed data of my friend. It always works well on both of a memory card and a hard drive. So, I believe it will also help you a lot.
Try to read more information of this freeware here:
http://www.freeware-fix.blogspot.com/2013/04/data-recovery.html
After experiencing these troubles, I hope you can learn a valuable lesson to back up everything important well all the time.

I HAVE AN OLYMPUS MASTER (FE-190 )AND I HAVE LOST SERIAL NUMBER

I looked up the FE-190 and it says it uses XD Memory Cards not discs. Several companys make a card reader that plug into the USB connector
on computers. 2 are Targus and Lexar. You could probable find an XD card reader at Walmart or Radio Shack. The XD memory card will then show up
on your computer screen as a regular folder that contains JPG files, which are the pictures.

When power is turned on the card setup screen pops up. The only 2 options are to power off or format. If I select format, the pictures will be erased if yes is selected.

Memory card seems imbalanced due to some reason and can only be corrected by formatting as advised in camera pop up.
Of course all picture files will be deleted if card is formatted. Try to put card in card reader and back up files in computer.

It says picture error for every picture and cannot delete photos individually. One minute it said card full then every photo said picture error and switched itself off. Its not a happy camera

Sounds like you will need to format the memory card. This will permanently erase all the data from the card and then you will be able to use it again. To format the card: Press the Menu button - right arrow to setup - right arrow to format option. You will see format yes or no. Choose Yes and press ok. This will clear the picture error messages and the card can be used again.

Help

Hi,

Yes and in several methods as below listed. Since your posting refers to a generic problem for all digital cameras and not only an Olympus FE-230, some of the settings may have a different nomenclature or button name.
1. When you download pictures to you PC, rather than copy, select move; or
2. If you want to erase one picture at a time from the camera - press on the power button, then menu button, once menu is displayed, arrow down/up, you will be asked to erase the picture displayed, select yes/no by up/down, then press OK (menu button); or
3. If you want to erase all contents of the memory card of the camera - press on the power button, then menu button, once menu is displayed, arrow right, down to select card, right to select card setup, right to enter card setup, arrow down to select format or erase all, OK. Erase all just erases the files, format erases all and re-initialize the memory card; or
4. Remove memory card from camera and insert into a memory card reader attached to USB of your PC. The memory from the camera will be treated as a removable device and you can view, move, copy, delete/erase, format. This option seems to be most effective in viewing all contents under Windows Explorer with the view setting set to Thumbnail.
5. Connect the camera via the supplied cable to any USB port of your PC. The camera will be treated as a removable device and you can view, move, copy, delete/erase, format. This option seems to be most effective in viewing all contents under Windows Explorer with the view setting set to Thumbnail.

Specifically for an Olympus FE-230:
1. Press the < or > buttons to display the picture you want to erase;
2. Press the trash can button (bottom right);
3. Press the UP button to select [YES], press OK;

or

To erase all:
1. Press the MENU button to display the top menu in playback mode;
2. Select [ERASE], [ALL ERASE], and press OK;
3. Select [YES], and press OK

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
