I was trying to hook my laptop up to my new linksys wireless router. Upon installation of the Linksys software the computer stopped responding. I tried to end task on the program and windows explorer crashed.
On reboot I get a blank desktop with a mouse pointer and Windows Vista never loads.
The computer will not boot into safe mode, safe mode with command prompt and Last known Good Configuration is missing entirely.
Startup repair was also unable to repair the issue.
Any suggestions welcome
NeoSmart Technologies offers a download called Vista Recovery Disk in .iso format. Download and mount the iso with your favorit burning program. Boot to the cd to access the recovery center. Hopefully you'll be able to repair your Windows Vista installation or restore to a known good configuration.

I am trying to avoid a restore since its a laptop and I haven't backed up my files. The router is the newest WRT110 and I have already updated the firmware prior to setting up the wireless connection on the laptop.
I wish I knew if there were restore points available. There should be however this is a preinstalled envoirment so I have no media to access the repair or startup console in Vista.
The boot options are possibly corrupt since the Last Known Good Configuration option is missing. I've never seen anything like this and I'm very good with Windows and computers in general.
This one has me stumped though I'm not ready to give up and restore just yet.

What is your computer's model number?
You can try restoring it to a previous restore point to your router installation. Is there any restore point available before you installed the router?
Boot to WINRE and do a system restore. That will make the computer to boot to windows. We can check for any updates with linksys. what is the model number of the router?
