Below is instructions on how to make sure doors open and close properly. Ignore the popping open part if this is not happening for you.

Replace a door gasket on a refrigerator....

how do i adjust doors so that they close on their - torngasket.gif

Replace a door gasket on a refrigerator: The first thing to do when changing a door gasket is to check and see if you have the proper part before taking the old gasket off. Hold the new gasket up to the fridge door to make sure the gasket is the same size as the old one. Next step is to remove the wrinkles in the gasket caused by folding for shipping. Instructions with the gaskets say to soak the gasket in hot water. Another way is to use a hair dryer to heat the gasket and remove the wrinkles. Be careful not to burn the gasket with the hair dryer. Almost all gaskets in use today are magnetic. I am placing instructions here for the most common one. They have strips of magnetized material inside the gasket material to adhere to the cabinet when the door is closed. Therefore there is sometimes no up or down on the gasket. Some fridge's have magnets on only 3 sides and the side without a magnet is the hinge side gasket. But to be safe, check this before installing. You will certainly want to check for this on older refrigerators that have magnetic door latches. Some of these have no magnets on the latch side of the gasket. There are about three different ways of attaching gaskets. All will be addressed on this page. Remove the food from the shelves on the door. Loosen the screws that hold the metal strips that keep gasket in place on the top half of the door. Back the screws out about 1/4 inch. The gasket has a lip on it that seats in a groove under the top part of the metal strip. Pull the old gasket off. Work the groove on back side of the new gasket under the cutout in the metal strips that holds it on the door liner. Straighten and get good install before tightening screws. Run screws back up against the metal holding strip snugly, not fully tight. Go to the bottom and do the bottom half. By doing the top half first and tightening, then doing the bottom half, you will minimize any warping of the door. If there is warping of the door, we have not yet fully tightened the screws. so you can realign the door easily and then tighten the screws. Check the alignment of the door and be sure the gasket is sealing properly before fully tightening the screws. If the door is warped, (see picture) simply warp it back to a sealing position, then tighten the screws. There are instances where the gasket is too tight on the hinge side, and you may have to shim the door hinges out from the cabinet to keep the gasket from scrubbing when closing. .also use a little petroleum jelly on the gasket on the hinge side will allow the gasket to "settle" better. The hinge side must slide along the cabinet edge while the other 3 sides just close up against the cabinet. The jelly will allow the gasket to rub smoothly and also prevent squeaking noises. Maintenance of the gasket is important also. It should be cleaned on a regular basis. Clean the gasket and the mating cabinet surface with warm soapy water, rinse clean and dry it good. Putting a little baby powder on the sides (except the hinge side because we put the jelly there) will prevent the gasket from sticking and tearing. The heaters in the refrigerator used to keep moisture from forming on the cabinet attracts airborne materials and make the gasket sealing surfaces sticky. The powder will help stop this. Probably 75% of the fridge's made a few years ago use this edge under the metal track....some American made fridge's use the U shaped metal strip and the gasket pushes into the metal strip, (see a picture) the screws that hold this metal strip do not have to be removed or loosened. A lot of fridge's also use the metal strips with out the edge. Some Maytag's and Woods come to mind. The screws go through the metal strip and the gasket as well. The screws have to be removed completely to replace the gasket.

Freezer door pops open when I shut the fresh food door:
This happens because the refrigerators of today are air tight, the fresh food door pushes the air into the cabinet as it closes and the air has no place to go but up the air vent into the freezer and "pops" open the freezer door. First thing is make sure the freezer door is capable of closing properly and is not rubbing or catching anywhere. I sometimes add a washer or 2 to the center hinge under the freezer door so it doesn't rub anything. Put a little Vaseline ( or food grade silicone lubricant ) on the hinge side of the seal. I then raise the front of the refrigerator so that the front of the refrigerator is a little higher than the back of the refrigerator. Never level a fridge with a level. Once you have the door closing properly and front slightly higher than the back...let the fresh food door close from 90 degrees on it's own and the freezer door may "pop" open a little but will close again on it's own...and stay closed once all is set up properly. We see this more often now and have no trouble with the door staying open again after setting up the refrigerator properly.
Let me know if this helps, Thanks, Sea Breeze

How to have Hisense Doors stay opne and not self close

Here are some general steps you can try to make the self-closing doors stay open:

Locate the hinge cover on the upper doors of the fridge. This is usually a plastic or metal cover that conceals the hinge mechanism.

Remove the hinge cover by gently prying it off with a flat-head screwdriver or by unscrewing any screws holding it in place.

Look for an adjustable tension screw or tab on the hinge mechanism. This is typically a small metal tab or screw that can be rotated or adjusted.

Use a screwdriver or pliers to adjust the tension screw or tab. Turning it clockwise will usually increase the tension and make the door close more quickly, while turning it counterclockwise will reduce the tension and make the door close more slowly or stay open.

Adjust the tension screw or tab as needed until the door stays open at the desired angle.

Once you have adjusted the tension, replace the hinge cover and test the door to make sure it stays open and closes properly.

Keep in mind that adjusting the tension may affect the performance of the self-closing mechanism, so you may need to adjust it again in the future if you notice any issues. It's also important to be careful when adjusting the hinge mechanism, as improper adjustments could damage the fridge or cause the doors to become unstable

How do I adjust the sealing of the door when closing

The adjustment for this is usually on the back or side of the motor unit. Clockwise movement of the screw will lower the door position - keep adjusting till it seals. Do not over seal because then the door will reverse itself as the obstacle circuit might kick in and open the door.

The door closes but not firmly their is still movement when fully closed

The door may be easily adjusted by slackening off the screws that clamp the door catch/actuators in place whilst holding the door closed and then tightening the screws. The rear of the door may be adjusted by slackening the lower door hinge screws and adjusting as required.
I hope that helps.

Doors where hard to close without the weather door seals. But with them on they will not close. The body plates more but not enuff on the cab? I need HELP.

Hi!!
The doors Hinges or Striker need to be adjusted to make up for the weatherstrip thickness. To do this, loosen the hinge-to-door bolts for lateral adjustment only. Loosen the hinge-to-body bolts for both lateral and vertical adjustment.
FRONT DOORS 1kbron_78.gif
REAR DOORS
1kbron_79.gif
BEFORE YOU START:
  • Determine which hinge bolts are to be loosened and back them out just enough to allow movement.
  • To move the door safely, use a padded pry bar. When the door is in the proper position, tighten the bolts to 19-25 ft. lbs. (26-35 Nm) and check the door operation. There should be no binding or interference when the door is closed and opened.
  • Door closing adjustment can also be affected by the position of the lock striker plate. Loosen the striker plate bolts and move the striker plate just enough to permit proper closing and locking of the door.
TO ADJUST ON A: F-150, F-250, Expedition and Navigator
HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL ADJUSTMENT
  • Loosen the front door hinge to front door bolts.
  • Adjust the front door alignment.
  • Tighten the front door hinge to front door bolts to 19-25 ft. lbs. (26-35 Nm).

FRONT DOOR FORE AND AFT ADJUSTMENT Check the rear door hinge adjustment before adjusting the front door hinge.
  • Remove the front fender.
  • Loosen the front door hinge to body bolts.
  • Adjust the front door alignment to specification.
  • Tighten the front door hinge to body bolts.
  • Install the front fender.

DOOR ADJUSTMENT The following procedure is for performing fore, aft, up, down and tilt adjustments.
  • Remove the door striker.
  • Loosen the bolts only enough to allow for slight door movement.
  • Carefully close and adjust the door until flush with the adjacent body panels.
  • Carefully open the door and tighten the bolts.
  • Re-install and adjust the door striker.
  • Check the door for proper operation and alignment.
STRIKER ADJUSTMENT Mark the position of the striker before loosening.

Door adjustment for a 96 f350 dropped about 1/2"

Here's the solution: You might want to park it under a tree and tie a rope to the door to pull it up when loosened.

Track rail bends when closing the door

I think you need to take the cover off the motor unit and watch the limit switch assembly in operation. Takes only a few seconds to see how it works and see if it is damaged in some way. You need to turn the down limit adjustment in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover to stop the door sooner. I think the down force adjustment on the rear of the motor unit is out of adjustment also. This adjustment affects the safety of the opener and should only be adjusted high enough to consistently close the door.

Door won't close wont lock closed

Check the following if you have problem with your doors:

1)The latch on many dishwashers is adjustable. If your door is easy to close but difficult to latch, adjust the latch to let the door close more easily. If you can't see any way to adjust the latch, yours may be fixed in a certain position. Check for other reasons for the latching problem.
If the latch has worn out in a way that makes it impossible for you to close the door properly, you probably need to replace the latch.

2)Your dishwasher has two springs that counterbalance the weight of the door. If either or both of these are broken, the door feels quite heavy and you need to replace both springs.

3)The hinges are important to the door closing properly. If they're bent or deformed, you probably need to replace them. Once bent, only rarely can they be straightened well enough.

4)If your dishwasher is new or if you have just replaced a door seal the door may be difficult to latch for a week or two. If the tightness persists, though, try adjusting the latch, if it's adjustable. If it's not adjustable, there's probably nothing you can do immediately. But try running the dishwasher on the highest heat cycle to help the seal conform to the door. Otherwise, the seal should compress over time.

Whirlpool gd5thgxks01 door does not auto close

You need to level the refrigerator slightly backwards so the weight of the door closes it automatically. The front legs are adjustable, so just turn them until the door closes on its own.

Garage door won't close by remote in cold weather

There are ususally two adjustments on garage door openers...
One is for the pressure and the other is for the travel. Assuming that the travel adjustment is properly adjusted...

On a cold day things are a little tighter and it "wants" a little more downwards pressure to complete its cycle. Sorta like me in the morning -- I need a little coffee to get going on a cold morning.

Adjust the down pressure/force just enough to make the unit close properly. Do not over adjust the down pressure or you will find it won't stay closed. Sometimes the manufacturer doesn't make it too clear where this adjustment is, but you should be able to find it if you look around.

I have seen units that were installed for years all of a sudden need a little tweak of this adjustment.

Good luck
