Fax will not work--no dial tone--copier works ok/phone line is ok

Make sure your phone line for the fax is correctly plugged into the Line Port of the printer and not the EXT port. For a more comprehensive guide on how to setup the Lexmark X4270 for faxing, please refer to the Lexmark X4200 Series User's Guide.
The user's guide also contains some fax troubleshooting steps for your reference.

I need to connect my phone line to my printer to enable me to send faxes, how do I do this.

Refer to the printer's User's Guide on how to connect your Lexmark X5470 to your telephone line for faxing. If the printer software is already installed on your computer, you can access the printer's User's Guide by going to the Start menu -> Programs -> Lexmark 5400 Series -> User's Guide (applicable to Windows OS). If not, you can download it from the Lexmark website for free using this link: Lexmark 5400 Series All-In-One User's Guide. Scroll to page 12 for the fax setup instructions. Also, check page 71for faxing instructions (sending, receiving, etc.). Hope this helps.

Do you need an extra phone line for a fax on your printer

it depends on what type of printer you have...i actually have an HP officejet j3500 series, it a fax, printer, scanner and copier in one.. when im using it for sending fax messages, i just dial the number where im sending it and it automatically faxes (phone keypad and handset is included)... and i use it as my printer too so its already connected to my pc..so easy to use...

but but but... i actually connected a separate phone line (our original phone from our provider) to the hp j3500 series cuz sometimes i need to speak first to thr person im sending fax before i send the message... i think that is for manual sending of fax...

so if you want to send manually (speaking first to the person before sending) a separate phone line is required (connected to ur fax)

but if u want autofax, then i dont think its necessary...

there u go...

visit this website to learn more.. hope this is useful

Our Epson Sylus CX9400Fax Series is not receiving or sending faxes. We have already done the phone call to India thing for 90 minutes. All settings were changed and tested. They are now back to factory...

Ok, here's a check list for you.
SENDING

Check the following:

  • Make sure the phone cable is connected correctly and verify that the phone line works by connecting a phone to it.

  • Make sure that your recipient's fax machine is turned on and working.

  • If you connected the Epson Stylus CX to a DSL phone line, you must install a DSL filter to the line or you won't be able to fax. Contact your DSL provider for the necessary filter.

  • If your phone line has static or other noise problems, turn off the ECM (Error Correction Mode) setting and try faxing again.

Follow these steps to turn off the ECM setting:

    1. Press Setup.

    2. Select Fax Settings, then press OK. You see this screen:

    3. cp_display_141_er.gif

    4. Select Communication, then press OK.

    5. Press cp_button_44_er.gif and select ECM. Then press cp_button_42_er.gif and set it to Off.

    6. Press OK.

RECEIVING

Try the following if you can't receive a fax:

  • Make sure the phone cable is connected correctly and verify that the phone line works by connecting a phone to it.

  • To receive faxes automatically, make sure the Auto Answer light is turned on. To turn it on, press the Auto Answer/Space button.

  5. Click Close.
The following table contains the Setup and Settings tabs for the Lexmark Fax Solutions.
On this tab
You can
Personalize
  • Enter your company name and fax number.
  • Enter your name, company name, phone number and address as you want them to appear your cover page.
  • Select a cover page for your fax.
Send
  • Choose to use error correction.
  • Choose to use fax header.
  • Select a maximum send speed and a print quality for outgoing faxes.
  • Choose whether to scan the entire document before dialing the number.
  • Select when to print a fax usage report.
  • Select when to print a fax activity report
Select when to print an activity report is the only close item I can find. Nothing whatsoever about a confirmation report.

About Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection (DRPD)
"Distinctive Ring" is a service provided by some telephone service providers. Two phone numbers are assigned to one phone line so that you will hear different ring patterns for incoming phone calls than for incoming faxes. If you subscribe to this service, follow the instructions below to program your All-In-One to use it.
On the X125:
Press Setup once, then press Menu nine (9) times until DRPD appears on the display.
On the X63:
  1. Press Setup once, then press Menu eight (8) times until DRPD appears on the display.
  2. Press Options until you see Learn, and then press Start/Yes.
  3. Dial the phone number that you want to use as a fax number. (Do this from a different phone line, not from the line the fax will be installed on.)
  4. Press Setup.
  5. Press Menu until you see Fax Receive Mode on the display.
  6. Press Options until you see DRPD, and then press Start/Yes. The All-In-One detects the ring pattern and answers all incoming faxes on the second ring.
