I have a gateway MS2774 laptop. It recently had trouble turning on. Thought it was the battery so I did some research found some tricks an tried turning it on without the battery. It worked a couple of times. So now i restarted it after a monthly cleaning and it's back at. Fan fires up but I get nothing else. No bios, no screen, nothing. I reseated the memory. Didn't work. Pulled out the DVDrom, tr memory, and the hard drive and tested the mother board and heard a small faint noise so I guess that's good as far as the mother board goes(I guess?!) So can any of those whizzes out there help me out with something I haven't tried yet? Please let me know and thanks in advance.

The CPU or RAM maybe faulty.
Computer does not boot up
The problem maybe the RAM, it could be faulty or just needs reseating to make proper electrical contact.
Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. If it still does not boot up then remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM for you.
Just like you sometimes need a mechanic to repair your car, sometimes you do need a technician to diagnose and identify the fault or faults on your computer. Not only does a good service technican have the experience to deal with this type of problem, they also have the equipment that allows them to look at things the average computer user can't see, and he has a collection of replacement parts that can be used to quickly test individual components on your computer.

SOURCE: opened laptop to find '

Please make sure if you open the back part of the laptop check the Harddrive if it is firmly connected. bacause it is possible that the reason why the laptop doesn't detect it is because of the physical connection.

SOURCE: My son has an HP

I think you can see the black screen or the Bios screen even if you don't see anything further, or nothing at all? Cursor is another case, but once it tries to boot up, it should show something on the screen, like black screen with white text or something similar. If so, then I would suspect Windows Boot issue or some boot files might have been corrupted or damaged or deleted or missing.

I appreciate that you've already done the basics like reseating Hard disk and Ram. Now, you'll need a windows CD or a Recovery/repair disk, (since you didn't mention the O.S. name, i can't verify which Windows Recovery/Repair disk you should use, if it's windows vista, you have to use a Windows vista Recovery/Repair Disk). But here's another problem, since HP don't provide the Recovery disk (they only instruct to Order the Disk on Hp Official Website), you have to get one for yourself. Before you look for one, you have another option.

Once you press the power button to power up the Machine, keep tapping the F11 on the keyboard and wait, if you see anything on the screen, you have a chance (but not all problems) if you can proceed with the onscreen instructions and Restore the system to Earlier State, then proceed ahead and try with the System Restore Wizard.

You can also try with the Safe Mode, press the power button the Power-on the laptop and keep press F8 button on the keyboard, it'll direct you to the "Advanced Boot Options", if this is possible, then select "Safe Mode" from the options available (use the arrow keys and press enter to confirm and proceed). It'll show several white texts with black screen and will boot up after few minutes, if any message pops up to confirm your input, click "yes" or "Ok". Once it's successfully booted, uninstall some softwares or applications or drivers etc.. you had recently installed, again reboot the system into Normal mode, if Safe Mode is not possible, your last option (from your end) is to boot from a Windows CD and check if it can go well. These are all what you can do from your end, if these fail, you better call a tech or hp or take it to a local service center.

If you need further help, let me know.

Good luck.

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow myinstructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

This site is worthless...more interested in tricking you with AD links than giving you an answer. Press Volume Down, Home and Right Directional...then power on. Connection screen will appear, connect it to your PC and select repair after tune up is done.

Then delete your profile on here and report the link you followed from google as worthless.

Hello, I recently purchased the 12-cell battery for the Gateway NV5214U which I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. However the laptop does not recognize it. It says to remove the battery as it could...

First, you will need to check the voltages of the 2 batteries & make sure they are identical. Both batteries should have identical voltages. The only difference should be that 12-cell batteries last longer than 6-cell batteries.

Next, take the battery off the laptop, & using a dry tooth brush, scrub in between the fins of the battery connector on the motherboard & on the battery it self, then put the battery back into the laptop & try again.

And last, if none of this works, then try updating the BIOS. Sometimes this solves problems with the battery not being detected. You can download the BIOS for your model from Gateway support site. You have to download the BIOS for your exact laptop model. I would also recommend to do some research on the Internet before updating the BIOS to see if somebody else encountered the same problem on the same laptop model, & whether it was solved by flashing the BIOS or not. Beware not to turn the power off while flashing the BIOS, or you might render your laptop unusable.

How does one change the CMOS battery of the Gateway 450ROG PC Notebook

One should not need to. Laptop cmos batteries should last for many years. Some cmos batteries are soldered directly to the board, you would need to dissasemble the laptop to find out.
Not many manufacturers provide service manuals, they dont want the average person to try to take the laptop to bits.
However, i have found your service manual in case you wish to try http://tim.id.au/laptops/gateway/gateway%20450rog.pdf

Gateway M-6862 laptop will not turn on; battery light flashing re

Seems to be a problem of not enough power.

First check the voltage output of the charger(adapter) and match it with its specs.

Also try to reset the hardware using the following steps:

1 Disconnect battery and the charger
2 Let it sit for 1-2 minutes.
3 Press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds.
4 Reconnect battery and charger and try to start by pressing the power button.

My Gateway Laptop T5450 won't turn on. When i press the power button the light blinks and then nothing

A couple of quick questions for you. How old is the laptop? Was the laptop dropped recently?

If the laptop is a couple of years old it could be that your battery needs to be replaced or it could be on a recall list which you would find on Gateway's website

Hope this helps

Gatweway lap top button light up, but wont turn on

I'm afraid this sounds suspiciously like a motherboard problem. It would help to know what model etc, as some Gateway & EMachine model laptops have had extended warranties due to motherboard issues, or just go to Gateway.com and research it yourself.

Gateway model # CX 2618

First test if it works on an external monitor. If it does you will need to clear the CMOS. To clear it:
remove the battery, unplug the cord, and hold the ON button down for 30-60 seconds. Then turn it on. Thats how you clear it on most laptops.
If it does not work on the external monitor, you probally have a bad video card and need to replace the old one
