Emachines 15" monitor (old). I can't get rid of the icons that are on the very edge of the right of the screen. I've tried to reduce them with the arrows but didn't work. I am NOT a techie, so be gentle please...

Right click on your desktop screen and click screen resolution, click on resolution and try a different setting.Keep changes and click apply. If that helps, keep trying different resolutions until your desktop is right for you :)
Why did you replace the lcd inverter? Were you able to barely see icons
on the desktop which is an indication that the lcd inverter is bad? If
not, then you need to replace the lcd screen. If you could barely see
the icons and you replaced the lcd inverter, then the inverter is bad.
Just because the inverter is new does not mean it works. If the video
shows on the external monitor, but you can't see anything on the
laptop's screen even when you shine a flashlight on it then the lcd
screen is bad.
Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barely see the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.
Plug
in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can
be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it
has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that
proves your ideo card is ok. The video will show on most systems when
you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require
you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key
then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12).
The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon
of a display. If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad.
If you see no icons by shinning the flash light and nothing shows on
the external monitor, then most likely your video card is bad.
connect external monitor and look it works properly or not .if problem persists , then format and reinstall the' operating system' . use licenced OS(operating system) to install . before that verify that all drivers are present or not . if not , then take the back up of the drivers .
It could be that the screen is at the correct resolution, but the icons are just set to display larger (Vista allows this). Right-click on the desktop (NOT over any icons), and select "View". there you can select the size of the desktop icons.
Before assuming it's the monitor, try it on another display card.
It is possible that there is a problem in the configuration of the display card, or a defect in the display card.
Is there a computer service place, or a monitor sevice center near to where you live. You can then take the monitor to have it properly checked for you.
