TASCAM DP-01 won`t startup

Press and hold down the "track edit" and the "shut down" buttons while turning the power on until it says "-init screen- please wait". It will ask you if you want to initialize hdd. If so press yes/enter. This Will wipe your hard drive clean. If no just press no/exit. This works on the dp-01fx. It should work on the dp-01 as well.

Why does the screen read "device error" when I turn it on?

Hi,

http://is.gd/B05L6B

According to the user manual for the device, on page 81, it reads:

If any of these errors occur, turn the the unit power OFF and restart it.
If these error message continue to appear, please contact a TASCAM Service Center.
***Device Error*** (the one you're asking about)
FileErr
FX Busy
FX Rx Failed
I
/F Error
Mount Error
SaveParam Fail
SD-Card Error!
SD Not Found
SD Read Busy
SD Write Busy

Looks like your unit may require servicing at an authorized Tascam service center.

Good Luck!!

Tascam 2488 locked up/frozen

This will reinitialize it to the factory settings. All data (music) will be lost.
With the 2488 turned OFF
Simultaneouly, hold down the Quick Routing, Shift, Send and Shut Down buttons.
With all buttons pressed .... turn the 2488 ON.

It shoulld go through the normal boot up screens, including a screen that states ' partitioning drive', etc. When finished it will show ' Factory Settings Reinitialized - Reboot (or something like that) and you are done.

I have the original 2488 as well, and tried everything recommended to address the HDD lockups.
I think I know why Tascam eliminated the Tone Generator (Drums) on the MKII and Neo versions.
Too much for the processor to handle?? Hope this helps.

Can't Get My Music Off My Tascam. I have a DP-01 portastudio and it has a usb connection but it's not being recognized by my computer. At first it just wasn't compatible with Vista now I have windows xp...

How to export your recorded tracks to WAV:
- Activate the Menu
- Scroll down to WAVE
- Press the right cursor key
- Go to Export Track
- Select the tracks using the Insert and cursor up and/or down keys
- Press Yes/Enter
- When the DP-01 is done repeat pressing Exit until the menu is closed.

Tascam USB mode:
- Press Menu
- Go to Disk
- Scroll down to USB OPN/CLS
- Press Yes/Enter
- Press Enter again to execute
- Press Yes/Enter again for the "Are you sure?" message

Now you will be in USB mode and you will be able to access the DP-01's hard drive and download the exported WAVE file(s).

Remember: the DP-01 will stay in USB mode until you remove the deviceusing the Safely Remove Hardware option in Vista and then press Exit onthe Tascam!

Tascam dp01 fx cd.. OOPS!!! Please help.

Depending on the voltage that your laptop uses, if that voltage exceeds the Tascam required voltage you might have burned out the Tascam power board. Not good. I know you don't want to replace the entire unit. Try contacting Tascam directly they might give your an alternative in just replacing the power assembly.

Tascam DP01 wont get past please wait screen

Usually an indication of bad sectors on the hard drive. This can be caused by bumping the unit when it is running, excessive vibration, a power failure while it is on, improper shutdown, or expoure to a strong magnetic field like having a subwoofer too close or an intermittent faulty power supply.

Your options are to return the unit (if it is still under warranty), or if not to open up the DP-01, remove the hard drive, connect it to a PC and perform a low level format (or take the drive to your nearest PC repair shop and have them reformat it).

Unfortunately you'll lose any data that wasn't backed up, but this should bring back your DP-01.

Tascam DP-01 FX/CD

Check to find out the size of the active FAT partition. You may have a 'less than optimum' amount of memory left in that partition. Switch to another partition and see if you can record in that one.

Tascam DP-01 FX/CD Digital Portastudio

Here's a link to a forum where someone else encountered the same error. Seems it was due to running out of disc space in that instance.
