Is your DVD player hooked up to a surround sound receiver, or directly to your television?

In that case, it's likely that your DVD player has the audio output set to something other than what you've got it hooked up as.

Go into the "Menu" of the DVD player, and look for Audio or Sound options.

When you find that, see if there's a way to change from Digital (or Optical, possibly) to Analog. That should do the trick.

If there's nothing hooked up to the surround sound receiver, that's normal, since you're connecting the DVD player directly to your television.

It simply sounds like you've got it hooked up wrong, not that there's anything wrong with it.

Disconnect everything, and then plug in the red, white and yellow cables from your DVD player, to the television. That should do the trick.

Can you try connecting the DVD player to another tv? Maybe the inputs on the TV are no good.

If that doesn't work, and there's no audio on another TV, it's likely that the output on the DVD player isn't working anymore.

Unable to get TV sound and dvd sound through the surround sound speakers with samsung compatible tv and blu ray player

Hi,Even though you have not mentioned about the cabling connections you have done, for the sake of correct connection I describe all the possible cabling alternatives to you..You can select whichever you want..

TO WATCH DVD ON THE TV:
** Receiver's "AUDIO and VIDEO OUTPUT as " 2xRCA Audio+1x Video " or "Optic Cable OUTPUT or " HDMI Output " of your Home Theater Receiver (whichever you want ,based on the existing sockets and necessary cables on your hand )
** AT TV side : you need to connect "Audio+ Video input s " as can either be : 3xRCA jacks or "Optic cable input " or HDMI IN connector of your TV ,
** than just switch to DVD mode on Receiver and play DVD
*
You can use "HDMI" connections as well but sometimes HDMI creates problem on Audio..

TO LISTEN YOUR TV ON SURROUND SYS.
** AT TV side : you need to connect "Audio Output " as can either be : 2xRCA jacks or "Optic cable output" or HDMI connector of your TV ,
** to Receiver's "TV input "or "AUX input" or "Optic Cable input"
or HDMI of your Home Theater Receiver (whichever you want ,based on the existing sockets and necessary
cables on your hand )
** than just switch to respective SOURCE mode on
Receiver corresponding the connector you have used on the back of Receiver ..
*
You can use "HDMI" connections as well but sometimes HDMI creates problem on Audio..

Pls remember.."IN " goes to "OUT" or vice versa..all the times..

There you go..Both Tv and DVD sound are on the
Receiver as SURROUNDING SOUND .By this means ,whatever you watch on the TV will come thru your Receiver's SURROUNDING SOUND speakers as well .

Hope this helps!..if more help requires pls let me know.
Take care

When playing a dvd I can hear music but not people speaking on it

I suspect the TV is in Surround Sound mode and if you have no surround speakers, will not get centre channel, with speach in it.
Re set your TV sound setting.

Lost my sound in my surround speakers

Check your speaker setup onscreen ( monitor) viewed configuration, be sure you are enabling SURROUND SPEAKERS, or REAR SURROUND if you are running 7.1, then check the AUTO input to be sure you are receiving a MULTI-CHANNEL SIGNAL within the DIGITAL/ANALOG source. Cycle through the DSP Analog modes ie. Pro-Logic, Rock Concert etc. and check your DIGITAL signal indicator for a 5.1 DD or DTS input, if you hit a unitentional button then you will just need to reset it back to prior operation before loseing the surround speakers.

Surround Sound Not Playing For TV Programs

Greetings jdm12,

I can understand your problem, I have some what of the same issues with my home theater setup when watching events. One of the only suggestions I can make is adjusting the "Dolby Pro Logic II Mode". After reviewing your owners manual it appears you should be able to change the mode by pressing the PL II Mode button found in the lower keypad on your remote. It appears the options you should have are Music - Cinema - Pro Logic - Matrix - Stereo. You may want to try Music or Stereo when watching your events. In Stereo setting it should provide sound out of the front speakers and sub-woofer only. In Music, there are more processing that is done so you could hear more then just the front speakers.

I hope this makes your next your next PPV Party a big hit!
