I've had Direct Tv for about 4 years now and woundering if I can hook my Motorola cable modem to a cable jack in my house and get Internet through there. Any ideas if it will work? I'd like to hook it up to my Modem and to my Belkin WiFi Router. Better than NetZero DialUp, too slow.

SOURCE: New modem will not work with my Belkin F5D7230-4 router

I would start by re-setting the modem. Disconnect the power for the router and modem. Wait a minute or two. Plug the modem back in first. Wait for the modem to complete communication with your internet service provider. When all communication lights are good on the modem then plug the power into the router. It amy take a few minutes to get all the lights. Hopefully this will allow the DHCP to release from the old router and renew to the new one. Make sure if your internet provider requires any manual configurations that they are properly configured in the new router.

SOURCE: Can I setup a cable modem with a router

You can if the router is wireless and you have a wireless card in your computers. If not, then you will have to upgrade the router to a wireless and get wireless cards in the computers or run a cable to the 2nd floor

cable modems do not have those.

I bet you have cable modem or a SAT modem
and converting HDTV to analog is wow hard. if not impossible
one can record a video sources and convert it using PONG adapter. to old CRT motorola quasar.

quasar Company ceased to exist in 2004. ! Beside Uwave ovens.

Sb5120

1.screw the cable line into the (F-connector)port in the back of the modem just like a tv does.2.then use the RJ-45 lan cable supplied with the modem, plug it into the RJ-45 port in the back of the modem.3.then plug the other end of the cable into the computers RJ-45 port.4.then power on the modem by pluging it in,and letting it boot and detect the internet signal and all lights are on and in working order.then start surfing. The only time you will need the install cd is if you need to use the usb hook up on the modem.

To have a modem last you six years is very impressive. Most will fry out if not kept on a cooling pad.
I'm sure you've tried the obvious ones; Unplug it, wait 30 secondsPlug it in.
Try to replace the cat5/ethernet cables. Try replacing the coaxial cable.
If you can access the settings page through your web browser you can try to reset it.
1. Open a web browser and go to: 192.168.100.1extlink.gif
2. Click the "Configuration" option at the top
3. Look near the bottom of the page. There should be a button that says, "Reset All Defaults". Click it once.
4. Once the page refreshes, click the last button at the bottom called, "Restart Cable Modem"

I hope something here works for you.

Sounds like a problem with your cable connection. Check your coaxial cable, and the splitter from where the cable enters your home. The tech will use a signal meter to measure the quality of your cable, and then replace the wiring if necessary.

There's no place on modem to hook router

Look for Ethernet jacks. You want to hook both your computer and your daughter's laptop to the router to out ports i.e. usually on the front side. The back side of router would hook using probably another Ethernet jack to your modem.

Whehe do plugs go on back of unit? have direct tv

First off, you need to hook up audio and video by using an A/V cable to connect the DVD player to the TV, yellow, white and red jacks are coded, match the jacks up, put one end of A/V cable to DVD player OUTPUT jacks and the other end to INPUT jacks in back of TV. Also same with Direct TV receiver, hook top set of jacks to TV, with A/V cable, also connect coaxial cable from satelite to matching satelite input jack. Connect power cables, and then you're set. Good luck to you!

I want to not be wireless anymore want to go direct hook up

Take whichever cable/wire that runs from your modem, that should be the first electronic device in the line from your incoming internet service, that would be the main line from whatever your source is be it phone line, cable, or satellite. Plug into the appropiate jack on the back of the computer.
Main incoming line/cable, ----->modem,-------> ethernet cable-------
---------->computer
