I have an existing Cisco E1200 router. Can I use a WAP610n as a repeater if I connect it to the E1200 via an ethernet cable? Thank you so much, Melody

Testimonial: "Hello Max. Thank you so much for the link. I had been there before I came here. I saw 'how' to do it. What I was wondering was can I use those two specific pieces of hardware together or do I need other models? Maybe you sent me to the answer and I just can't seem to find it. :-) "

Unplug the router for ten seconds and plug it back in, it needs to reset. Some routers have a reset button. I often wait longer than ten seconds, I find a beer is usually the right amount of time. Sometimes the modem needs a reset also; unplug everything, then plug back in sequence, with the modem first, the wait, then the router, wait, then turn on your computer. That system works for any brand modem and router.

What kind of cable do you have connected from the DLINK to the Router? Is it an ethernet cable 3,5e,6?

if ur using IOS autonomous AP, then u'll need to configure the bvi interface to get an ip address and then enable the interface. once it has an ip, u'll need to configure the ssid, vlan, etc - choices include doing so with the CLI or web page GUI. U'll need to enable the built-in web server then u can access it via the web interface to setup the ssid, any vlans, radius, etc. good luck.

If you look at the lights on it you should have one for WLAN or Wireless connection. If this is not lit up you will need to go into your settings for the router and turn this on, save your settings and come back out again. You can do this by opening a web page and typing in the address bar 192.168.1.1, or 192.168.1.2 this should let you into your router internal setup, you may need to input a password and security key. Hope this helps

Do you have any information like internal IP information or the type of Router/Firewall the device is connected to?
If what you're saying is that the network is setup as everything having Static Address and nothing is DHCP, that means that the Cisco device will not obtain its own IP. Its setup to be DHCP for easy functionality.
I'd personally configure DHCP on a device, hook it up to the network, check the DHCP Lease list and see what IP address it obtains. Once you've done that i'd connect to the WAP and reconfigure the IP address to have the Gateway of the Router you're using, and assign the WAP its own IP address.
WAP's can be very tricky to setup, but this should help you out. If you need more clarification, please feel free to e-mail me and i'll do what i can to help you.
