Dehumidifier not dehumidifying ...

I have a Model 54701 purchased about 2 years ago. The fan doesn't operate at the High setting (the unit is on however). The fan works at the Low setting but the unit is not collecting any water. Q1?: Should I shoot this horse and try another or is there a warranty issue worth exploring? Q2: Assuming I buy a new one, what's good (and is reliable!) I saw some good reviews on the Comfort-Aire, but one reviewer implied it's the same as the Kenmore line (i.e., problem prone). I als saw good reviews on the Frigidaire FDL60P1. Thanks!

The thing runs and runs then remains powered up, but no movement and no water being collected

Save the old one for parts if you get the same new one but I def. don't reccomend buying this unit again. The reviews are bad. The fan is not covered under the warranty except first year or extented warranty. I spoke with Kenmore & Sears about this to see if coverd under 5 yr. Only compressor, tubing & refrigeration system(see inside of front cover for warranty info.)

Sound more like a sensor/circuit board problem to me since fan is turning. I think the signal determins which setting fan needs via sensor assembly to run. I could be wrong. Justa thought.

Can you def. hear the compressor come on. You can look through grill to see fan spin & the compressor makes a clank/clunking noise/ The fan & compressor should turn same time. Good luck! If you got any info. on my fan problem & you have update or fixed your problem I ccould use some help. Check post for my problem.. Thanks! panfan1

The 54701 Kenmore Dehumidifier runs and sounds normal, fan running, compressor on. However , it doesnt collect any water whether a hose is connected or just the bucket. No icing up or any weird noise...

Yes, if the compressor needs to be recharged, a service technician can do it.

In the meantime, try lowering the humidity extraction level to 35%. You may have the extraction level set to high.

Hope this helped you. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Just purchased a Danby dehumidifier (model # DDR6O11R). I was wondering when the dehumidifier reaches the programmed level of humidity (example: 40%). Is the unit suppose to shut off completely? I believe...

Depending on which mode you have the unit set on, will determine if it shots OFF entirely or the fan continues to run. In the Constant or Continual mode, the compressor will turn OFF, once the humidity extraction level has been reached. But, the fan will continue to operate, in an effort to keep the air circulating, so that if the humidity level rises, the compressor will turn ON and start extracting again.

In Timed Mode (usually 2 hour or 4 hour) , when the compressor turns OFF the fan does too.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

Kenmore 54701 (70 pt) dehumidifier will not power on.

This unit has had a lot of problems. It has come up in other forums. The fan motor is thermally protected. Could be the printed circuit board is bad. Check out this forum:

I have a Kenmore 54701 dehumidfier, less than 2 year old. the power is on, a fan seems to be running, I no longer hear a compressor turn and, and no water is collected?

The sealed system of the Kenmore 54701 dehumidifier is warranted (Parts & Labor) by Sears for five (5) years. Since the fan in your unit runs but the compressor doesn't, I suggest that you return it to Sears and request (demand) a new replacement unit under their warranty. I say "demand" because Sears will undoubtedly tell you that the problem is due to some "other" component which is not covered, and will charge you mega-bucks to repair it. Been there - - done that.

FYI, read the (very low) customer reviews of these units on Sears website and you'll see you're not alone in your experience with Sears' inferior quality units.

Above all, do NOT pay to have it repaired. That money is better spent on the purchase of a far more reliable brand of dehumidifier - - (which will most likely cost less that what you paid for the Sears unit).

Kenmore 54701 (70 pint) dehumidifier stopped running

the lowest setting for % of humidity is 35% on that unit... sounds like with all the other errors that the IC board is bad (the Control circuit board behind the displays)
