Replacing the TomTom Go 720's battery is actually not all that hard as this video demonstrates:

The company that produced the video sells a kit which includes the battery and tools necessary to do this yourself if you'd like. See: http://www.newpower99.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=TOMTOM+GO+720&Show=ExtInfo I swapped the battery of a friend's dying GPS using the aforementioned kit and all went well. His Go 720 is back up and running smoothly.
Hope this Helps, aaron

If your 720 is as old as mine there is no warranty anyway.

Don't change the battery!! As soon as you take that first screw out you'll void all warranties. Trust me even though the manufacturers is up you likely have one via laws in your state/reigon.

How do you replace TomTom GO 720 Battery

Most of the people selling the batteries on eBay include a guide.

There's a youtube video of it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcbebExQmx8

And, TomTom's forums have this

720 GPS screen off center

This is just a guess, but when you reconnected the flat ribbon cable cable to the board, you might have somehow not gotten it centered in the connector.

Tomtom go 4V00.710. Green light is on when charging but tomtom will not turn on.

i had the same problem; there is a simple reset solution, which is not described in either of the manuals which i have.
This involves removing the SD card, pressing a (tiny) reset button for 15 seconds, pressing the on/off switch for 5 seconds, then replacing the SD card. To locate the reset button, try the TOMTOM website/Support

My go 720 gps keeps freezing up

try resetting it, if that doesnt work, connect your unit to tomtom home. if you dont have tomtom home, follow the link at the bottom.

To reset your TomTom device, do the following:
  1. Check that the battery is charged properly.
Charge your device for at least 2 hours before trying to turn it on again. Make sure the charging light on your device is on.

  2. Remove the SD card
If your device uses an SD card, remove it.

  3. Reset your device.
Use a straightened paper clip, or something similar, to push the reset button for 15 seconds. See the pictures below for where to find the reset button.

  4. Turn your device on.
Press the On/off button for at least 5 seconds.

  5. Insert the SD card
If your device uses an SD card, insert the SD card.

Screen deactivated & a red circle with an 'X' flashing

First turn your firewall off (if you have one). You need to go into your 720 with the TomTom Home software and erase the downloaded software (with the remove items from my device) and reset the device (little reset button under the unit keep it pressed for 5 seconds), place it back in the cradle and restart your computer and than restart the 720 , bring the TomTom Home program up, and when the TomTom Home software in your computer restarts and detects the 720 it will tell you that you need to update the application, if it doesn't than you force the update by going to the add maps option, select items on my computer, select applications and press the add button, when done, go back and to device (option in top of your screen) and select disconnect device, restart your 720 and it should be back to life with the upgraded software.
