My Camcorder has recently stopped allowing me to record onto tape or memory or let me access the menu functions.
Everything else works fine, Zoom, playback, snapshot to memory etc.
I have put in a brand new tape and tried everything obvious. Am I missing anything? Looking for some help on this one as we have just had the arrival of our new baby girl and she is growing up every day.
Thanks.

Insert memory card, set to camera mode and set to memory, then hit the E-MAIL/INFO button and then you can press rec start/stop button as if your are recording on tape. It is a low quality video(email clip). To play, slide the power button to PLAY and press select(beside E-MAIL Button) and choose E-MAIL CLIP. Thats it. Good Luck
OK, that means you can see clear picture in playback of old recorded tapes and camcorder just wont give you live view to record any more. If its true then it is known problem/ failure of ccd imager in your JVC GR-D33 camcorder. JVC will repair it free of cost, click JVC CCD Imager Advisory for details. Thanks.
To save the video on a computer, a firewire connections must first be established from the JVC GR-DX307 AS to the appropriate firewire port of the laptop (assuming it has one or through a PCMCIA firewire adapter card if required). In the camera, the FireWire/DV port is located beneath the mode dial on the left side of the JVC GR-DX307’s body. To access the FireWire/DV port, the LCD monitor must be first opened.
Soon as that connection is established, you can use Windows Import Video (Vista) to capture / download the videos.
Alternately, the A / V port of the camera maybe used to connect to a DVD Recorder for direct, realtime copying & burning. For the disc to be playable in another machine, it must be finalized.
You can get a free membership on this site and download a manual, where, on page 18 of the pdf document you will discover that the recording button is at the rear of the camera, at the top right hand corner of the battery and at the lower right hand corner of the viewfinder, you can get tapes anywhere, even drugstores, and simply select memory card recording to record to your chip.
Since the JVC GR-D740EK is a european miniDV camcorder with no embedded memory nor memory card slot, I would assume that your talking about erasing or recording over your miniDV tapes. You can simply do so by sliding the the erase protection tab on your miniDV tape towards "record" and you can begin to record you movies. Prerecorded tapes cannot be deleted and used as "new" or bare (having no recording on it).
Unless the video is stored on the memory card you cant transfer it directly, you need a video capture device, it is an attachment to your Computer that manages the transfer of taped video copies to digital...
