Sounds like a bad magnetron (the device that produces the microwaves) - if the microwave is over 6-8 years old, it's usually not worth fixing.

Hotpoint BD32 built in oven is not heating up anymore, top oven/grill works fine. When it's switched on it makes the right "noise" but there is no heat or light. Is this an element problem?

you can check the element, just get a volt ohm meter, set to ohm's and make sure it shows a short, otherwise you have an open or bad element.

Microwave work but will not heat

If will does not heat or boil water, then your microwave is defective even if it appears to turn on.

If you do not hear the 'usual' humming noise that the microwave normally makes when heating, then the Magnetron is most probably defective: if the unit is out of warranty, it will not be worth replacing as it is quite expensive.

Hope it helps!
