Check the BIOS to see if you can make the USB as the first boot device, if you can then you will be able to install XP from the USB flash memory stick. The reason why your XP installation failed is because in most older laptops, the USB port does not work until Windows XP has been installed. Your hard disk may have an Windows XP install partition that you can access to reinstall Windows, provided you have not deleted this partition.
This is only possible if there is an option in device boot order in the BIOS configuration. In older motherboards there are no options for booting up with a USB flash drive in a USB port, because there are no USB drivers installed until Windows boots up.
there is a lot of difference in usage of Win7 and XP....
many of the features available using XP is not there in 7
so the best option is to have a dual boot system like i have....
C: has XP and D: has Win7....and you chose which OS to work with while the PC starts....that way i have the best of both....
i am waiting for win7 to get fully workable till i discard my XP.....this is called sunset period in IT consulting world
Im not sure what you mean by this ...but assuming that you are asking for a solution to reinstall without a cd -rom to boot from ...this can be done with a bootable flash memory stick ..(usb) the condition is to take a look into the Bios and see if at the boot section ..it has a boot from another device option ... if it does..just select it as first option ...than get a 4 G flash memory usb stick ...and follow this instructions ...or get someone that made one before to make a bootable stick with the OS on it .... in case your want another operation system ..there are exactly all steps on google ...just type installing ......from bootable memory usb device for example here is for Xp...http://www.articlesbase.com/computers-articles/how-to-create-an-xp-bootable-usb-flash-drive-570094.html
